Flashing while away from home? Bad idea?

General question about flashing. I'm guessing after flashing you have ro reprogram/provision the phone? So right now I'm out of the US so I'm roaming...I take it, it would be a bad idea to flash my ROM? i.e. my phone will basically be dead until I get back back on a VZW signal?

Well you could flash, but you wouldn't know if any stuff is jacked up until you got home, such as mms, etc.

You're going to have to be in Verizon territory to *228, so roaming would be a problem.

I know someone who had to activate a brand new Verizon phone in a fringe area. She had to drive around constantly dialing *228 until she was finally successful!

I have never had to re-activate a VZ phone after flashing (& I've probably flashed 100 times) but I would never flash when I was out of the country.....

I wouldnt flash till I was back home. And when I was on VZW, I always had to do *228 after flashing in order to have data. I could make calls, but not data connetions until I had done *228.

Really? A provisioning cab doesn't set stuff right for you Verizon folks? I'm on Sprint and after installing a provisioning cab everything perfectly. I guess Sprint has a different system.

I have seen other people say that also & I don't get it.

I flashed my xv6800's, TP's (& they where Sprint phones converted to VZ) & now TP2 numerous times & never once had to reactivate any of them to get data.

It certainly doesn't hurt to dial *228, but I have never had to do it ever.

Do you guys that have to re-activate flash from the card??

That may be the difference as I have never done it that way.
