How to tether with the stock sprint rom
2 Attachment(s)
to answer all the pms i find it easier to link to just one post. I have enclosed the only 2 cabs needed to get this running on a stock rom. you need to follow the directions exactly as posted.
Tethering - tested and works 1 - using file explorer go to Windows\Start Menu\Programs - delete internect connection sharing 2 install - ICS_and_WModem_Fix cab 3. using a regedit program [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing] Extension="" Delete the "isext.dll" entry [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings] ForceCellConnection="Sprint" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing] MaxCMCon=0 [HKLM\Services\CMGuaridan] Flags = 4 (it's a DWORD Value. if it doesn't exist. you need to create it) 4 - soft reset 5 - Start the Internet Sharing application. 6 - Select Sprint under type of connection. 7 - Hit Connect In the Internet Sharing application. 8 - Connect to the Laptop/PC via USB 9 - Done. No other applications needs to run on the PC/Laptop. |

Re: How to tether with the stock sprint rom
show me a screen shot this is what the screen should look like if you correctly deleted the ICS application before installing the ics fix. and you need to do all the reg edits.
make sure you check to see all the reg edits before soft resetting heres a screen shot of what it should look like at the end http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/1103/screen01m.png |
Re: How to tether with the stock sprint rom
Why not use htc wi-fi router? It is simpler and wire free.

Why can't we just install the ICS_and_WModem_Fix cab? Then simply launch ICS and choose Sprint before connecting. |
Re: How to tether with the stock sprint rom
Trial and error, I know for a fact my way works flawlessly, and it charges the phone while you surf too

Re: How to tether with the stock sprint rom
Works great for me. I followed these directions exactly. Make sure you press "connect" in ICS application BEFORE connecting the phone to the USB cable. Another thing I want o add is when doing the reg edits I added the key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing] MaxCMCon=0 There is already a similar key called "MaxCMConnectRetries" in the "settings folder so I created a new DWord key in the main "InternetSharing" folder since that is where the instructions said the key needed to be. This works on my SprintTP2. Thanks for the instructions Boo Boo |
Re: How to tether with the stock sprint rom
Am I the only one bothered by having both of these show in the registry:
[HKLM\Services\CMGuaridan] <= Above, oddly enough spelled incorrectly & [HKLM\Services\CMGuardian] <= I also have this in my registry, spelled correctly according to all my skooling and edumacation. Is one not needed? |
Re: How to tether with the stock sprint rom
i dont have CMGuardian you can try and delete it and see how it works. just copy all the reg keys in it.
i know the CMGuaridan folder has the correct spelling of CMGuardian in it, so who knows |
Re: How to tether with the stock sprint rom
I simply corrected the spelling of the folder because its quite obvious its misspelled. I didnt have two folders, I only had the one folder after the cab installs and I corrected the typo and I have no problems tethering. Whats that CMGuardian stuff anyway? Does anybody have a clue?

Re: How to tether with the stock sprint rom
Hi, I've followed every step, and under Network Connection, it's still <none>. I have a refurb TP2. oh, and when I was trying to install the ICS cab, it says it can not remove the previous ICS and WModem fix cannot be removed.

Re: How to tether with the stock sprint rom
so i install both these cabs and change the regedit and ill be able to connect stealthyly without any other 3rd party apps like pdanet, wmwifi, etc et?

This thread is so old (sorry no insult to op, who got screwed on the thanks for all the hard work..) they may still work but I wouldn't use it.. Do a "Search", view posts (check box) for Wifi router. Or, newer "Internet sharing" |

Re: How to tether with the stock sprint rom
I know this is an old thread...but I'm having an issue after following Boo Boo's directions. I did everything and the phone is showing as connected just fine when using ICS. The problem is the network tab on my computer shows the connection as "No Internet Access". I go to the browser on my device and it works fine.
I'm running the new WM 6.5 stock ROM from Sprint...so I'm not sure if that might be a problem. Any suggestions? |
