Very Confused .. Sprite or SPB Backup - restore Help!

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/images/icons/icon4.gif Very Confused .. Sprite or SPB Backup - restore Help!

Ok .. I just dont get the sprite backup restore it says ..

---------------------------------
Merge Level 1: Use this option to perform restore operations between the same devices with
different ROM revisions. For example: restoring from a KJAM ROM 2.16.9 to a KJAM AKU2 ROM
version.
Merge Level 2: Use this option when you wish to restore across devices and ROM versions. For
example: When restoring a backup file created on a WM2005 KJAM device onto a WM 2006
JAZJAR device.
Merge Level 3: If your device does not boot after performing a ‘ROM Upgrade’ or ‘Device
Upgrade’ restore use the ‘Merge Level 3’ operation.
---------------------------------------------------

So if I install something that I dont want ( Screws Up My Phone )
Or change a reg setting .. and want to undo it ?????

What Level do I want to use ? Seems all levels "merge" Not replace?

Or Better asked .. How the hell do I restore my phone to before I scewed with it ?

Help !

SPB is much better than Sprite... I've used both extensively and canned Sprite... just doesn't live up to the promise despite having some interesting restore options...

Will it restore everything .. before I screwed around ?

I backup as soon as I get things customized the way I like. If I ever mess something up I hard-reset and then restore from the backup. Then you won't have to worry about your latest change messing up the restore.

Edit: I use SPB Backup for that.

+1 on SPB. Plus you can restore a backup on a fleshly hard reset phone without having to install SPB first. You just tap on the backup in file explorer and off it goes.

Note: If you are going from 1 rom to another or even the same rom but different build date, you should only restore your PIM and Documents. Restoring System could alter a different rom or the updates to a rom.

Good point. It is important that those who are new to this process take heed.

I agree 100%.

I have both apps but I don't even bother installing Sprite anymore.
