Verizon TP2 auto-home tab default

Had my TP2 for a couple months now. I have yet to get into any roms or kitchens, but have noticed that many complained about TouchFlo3D automatically defaults back to the home tab after timing out or manually turning off the backlight...

Oddly, for the last couple days the phone has been sticking to the last screen used instead of bouncing back the home tab. I certainly did not do this (but I've been meaning to!) I am not complaining as this is much more useful... but I am wondering, has anyone else has noticed this phenomenon?

Did VZW or HTC flash the phone w.out me knowing?
(like MOTO did w the Droid via engadget)

Has my TP2 grown self aware and thinks I'd just prefer things this way?

Or is my phone malfunctioning?

I was curious so I performed a hard reset, wiped the memory clean. With no apps installed, no prefs changed, the phone still does not auto-home screen.

Any ideas??

If you go to Settings > Today then go to Items tab. On the bottom it says "Today timeout". Is yours unchecked?

Mine is checked and listed at 4 hours.
What does that mean.. after 4 hours what happens?

It goes back to the today screen on idle or screen off.
