Sprint MMS setup for Juicy R3 with HTC messaging

3 Attachment(s)
UPDATE 11/17/09
I have included the Arcsoft and Registry editor cabs.

You can use the SprintMMS zip attached to replace steps 2 and 3 in this process. It sets up the server and changes the wap sizes. Thanks to AstronusX for sharing the file. You still need registry editor to import them into the registry.

Bug: The messages are not threaded so they start taking up some space in your inbox making them a little time consuming to go through. If anyone has a way to make them threaded please let me know.

Other than that, this method has been proven to work by multiple users. If it doesn't work for you, you probably did something wrong.

1. download Arcsoft 5 0 94 128c

2. set up the settings for the sprint server
  • go to e mail tab
  • tap inbox
  • swipe touchscreen to the right to get to sms/mms inbox
  • press menu, scroll down to Pics/Video settings and choose it
  • Go to cdma servers tab open the existing server.
  • name the server whatever you like. I call mine sprint
  • leave gateway blank
  • port number is 80
  • server address: http://mms.sprintpcs.com/servlets/mms
  • connect via: sprint
  • press done...repeat for GSM server(not sure if it is required) delete any other servers
3. open registry editor...go to hklm, SOFTWARE, Arcsoft, Arcsoft MMS UA, Config, mm1, MMSCSetting, Sprint (or whatever you called your default server) and change all 4 wap settings to 5120000. I also did the same for all the servers.

4. You can now send without a problem two different ways.
  • Open picture from picture tab by clicking on it. Click on the option that look like 2 arrows shaped like a v. tap mail. choose picture message, video message, or voice message. Arcsoft is pretty standard from there.
  • Go to mail tab, inbox, swipe right to go to sms/mms inbox, menu, new and pic out of picture message, video message, or voicemail message.
5. For receiving. Once the message is downloaded, you can view it once the popup bubble comes up saying the message is done downloading under the "view" option. However, to view it again after closing it, go to your e mail tab, tap "inbox" and swipe right to get to the sms/mms inbox. The message your received with the attached picture is viewable by tapping on it. Unfortunately, the pic is still not viewable under New HTC messaging app. At least you can view regular sms through the text messaging tab by tapping them instead of going to all messages like before with the "disable cab" Not perfect but a lot better than before. Let me know if the instructions are confusing.

It has been tested by me on 2 different touch pro 2's for send and receive and by others in the Juicy rom thread.

Hope this clarifies some confusion for people on Juicy R3.

Does anyone know of a good registry editor to use with these custom ROM's?

Thanks,

Tony

I do not see an HKLM under my device in registry. Only HKEY folders. How do I edit the registry?

Did you see 4 wap settings to modify under your server name in registry? I just saw an empty folder unless I am missing something

It does work, he walked me through the setup this afternoon and I was able to send out a mms. You can use total commander or resco file explorer.

@tsantacruz
the 4 wap settings are there. I'll check and see if I can get some screen shots, hopefully i can find my mymobiler app

make sure you setup your account first in the settings under the mail account.

Also you should have a HKLM, if not i think something might be wrong. Any windows pc has a HKLM folder in the registry.....try checking again...if its not there then I don't know

Re: Sprint MMS setup for Juicy R3 with HTC messaging

I posted this in Juicys thread...bottom line, it works for me without the tweaks...but only through the inbox:

I can't get MMS to work through the Manilla tab (although SMS works fine)...but if I take a picture, and send it via sms/mms...it goes through fine. The problem is it goes though the inbox-"email" sms/mms MS server (not manilla), but it works...the same is true for pictures stored on my device; using the same method...the main issue is...I don;t get a notification?? even though it appears to be set up (still working that part)...my point of thei post is...

It works out of the box for me this way, without any other mods...Just Juicy R3

Thanks for your help. When I go into registry and HKLM all the way thru default server which is sampleMMSC on my device, the folder is empty. I cannot see the settings you have in your Total Commander picture. Not sure what i am doing wrong.

Also, under "connect via" I do not see the server name, only a. telus b. cdma1x c. my work internet d. my isp e. work f. secure wap network g. wap network and h. the internet i selected the internet then went to registry and thru hklm all the way to server name and only sampleMMSC is listed which is the name for my default server.

Ok, I am still having trouble with this........ (Sorry but I'm just getting flusterated with myself)

I am on Sprint and I do see the 4 WAP and have followed all of the directions.... and I still can not send any picturemail but I can receive them.

You can user manila 2.5 for regular text messages. The old windowsmobile interface is still required to view received mms's

Did you do the sprint provisioning option when you first installed the rom. It asks you what carrier you want to install? Sounds like you're missing that

Are you getting an error? What is it saying or how can you tell you are not receiving them? Sending a pic to yourself as far as I know doesn't work.

so to be exact, this fix allows you to send/recv mms thru the native wm client and send/rcv sms thru htc and wm without the need of a shortcut basically?

It allows you to use the HTC or windows mobile client for sms and the windows client for mms. It bypasses having to disable the HTC messaging client.

For simplicity, you can do the following the achieve same result as OP.

1. download Arcsoft 5 0 94 128c at http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/attachment...4&d=1256947252

2. Unzip attached SprintMMS.zip (Note: If you don't have RegEditor, use attached TaskMrg, it has regeditor inside to import)
3. Use TaskMrg below or your RegEditor to Import registry files to your phone

Go to Start --> Email -> SMS / MMS --> New --> Picture Message and compose ur MMS

Enjoy!

Thanks,

It seems that a lot of people are having a hard time using registry editor.

Re: Sprint MMS setup for Juicy R3 with HTC messaging

r2 gave me the provisioning screen but r3 had no provisioning options when i installed the ROM.

I will try the sprintmms.zip file and see if that helps.

Re: Sprint MMS setup for Juicy R3 with HTC messaging

My biggest problem with this whole mod is that, the messages that are viewed in the native windows messagining app are not threaded. The are all single text messages. I have yet to find a way to make them threaded.

It asks you right after it tells you sim card detected, if you don't do anything it goes away. I think there is a way to install it after the rom is installed. You have to search Juicy's thread for that.

Re: Sprint MMS setup for Juicy R3 with HTC messaging

We need to figure out how Manila 2.1 handles SMS/MMS and implement it in 2.5. In 2.1 the HTC messaging works with the native WM messaging tab. When you tap the message in touch flo it takes you to the windows app. It just works better in my opinion.

Maybe someone with a deeper knowledge of registry editing can take a look at 2.1's registry so we can make the same changes in 2.5

Re: Sprint MMS setup for Juicy R3 with HTC messaging

i cant even do step 1. Installation unsuccessful because it does not have sufficient system permissions.

i tried the arcsoft cab i already have as well as downloaded the one from this thread twice. No luck

Re: Sprint MMS setup for Juicy R3 with HTC messaging

I am sorry 2 hear so many people are having so many issues with MMS / Juicy's R3 rom.
These are the steps I took right after the Juicy R2 SPB Backup and flash to R3. Hopefully this helps out someone with a similar set up.
Pre Flash: Set up XDA_UC w/ all necessary cabs. (Note: I am using
OrigDefaultWMtexting4Manila.cab to keep my original screens)
Post Flash: Choose Sprint Carrier.> Device Restarts > Clear Storage > Start > Click Customize > After it loads all CABS, Scroll to Messaging Tab > All Messages > Press menu, scroll down to Pics/Video settings > Go to cdma servers tab open the existing server > Name the server whatever you like. (Sprint) > leave gateway blank >port number is 80 > server address: http://mms.sprintpcs.com/servlets/mms > connect via: Sprint > Press done.
Tested from one Sprint phone to another. incoming & outgoing (speed varies)

Try Soft-Resetting and then try to do the arcsoft install.

I was able to get receive working in the HTC app. I did this by chaning the WAP setting to none, along with all the other regular Sprint settings. However, now that I configured Arcsoft properly it's stealing all the MMS's :angry7:

I haven't been able to send with either, although the WM app says it sent, in reality the recipient never gets it.

EDIT: Look here for screenshots.

Did you use arch mms to send out email or using HTC Messaging. If you try to use HTC messaging to send out. It won't work. Go to outlook and use arch mms one.
