Telus - HTC Touch Pro 2 - Data Connection Error
 

Good morning all,

I have bought the HTC Pro 2 on Sunday from Telus... and since then I could not get a data connection. Telsu opened a ticket with their techies...no resolution yet. I was using an HTC Touch Diamond with no issues

Caption of error:

Data Call Failure
Error Code:8
Service not activated on the network


Anyone else is experiencing this?

There is a known issue. My ticket is open since last friday. They say that Telus server can't make a profile when a new activation come from TP2... no ETA

I just got my Touch Pro 2 yesterday and have the same issue, I keep calling in about every 6 hours to find out what is going on but there is still no answer. They are saying it might be something with the phone's and my guess would be maybe a radio update of some sort might come down the pipe ? Really a kick in the pants considering i just paid full price for a phone that half works.

I work for Telus and i activate many Pro2 until last week and they have all same problem. I think the problem is about the new network and HSDPA!

When i purchased the phone should they not have informed me that the data connection would not work?. A simple " O be the way were have having issue's with data and this phone"

I've had my TP2 since the day they came out back in July. Haven't experienced any real data connection problems - although I am noticing I've lost data for a few minutes a couple times today.

HSDPA is unlikely to be affecting the TP2, as our phones don't make use of that network at all (in Canada anyway). Had it reiterated to me at a Telus corporate event two days ago that the current CDMA/EvDO devices will not be getting a firmware/radio update to support HSDPA ... including the TP2 and other devices like the Blackberry Tour.

Hang tight. Hopefully they resolve it for you guys soon. I've had my tp2 since September and I'm lovin it!

Mine was resolved fast, took 2 days and they fixed this error for me. Its not an issue of the network not creating the profile. its an issue of it being corrupt. what they did for me is shut my service off for about 10min..... then had me pull the battery they recreated my profile and then i booted and all was well. didn't even have to do the *22803 OTA

I purchased a Telus HTC Snap about 2 weeks ago and have the same problems that you are having and the same error messages as well. Was told that some 80 people have the same problem, a ticket was issued but no estimated time of resolution is available. They tell me to keep removing my battery at different times of the day to get radio updates as it is a know problem.

I've had the TP2 since a week after it came out and I haven't had any issues what-so-ever. I'm still on the 15$ unlimited data plan they offered 2 years ago at x-mas! And just a quick side note, the new network isn't HSDPA, thats a european standard, what we have here is the HSPA+ standard, its the first step the the LTE (Long Term Evolution) network scheduled to be released sometime in 2012!

- SAME problem for me.
Got my HTC TP2 on Friday.

I unlocked it and flashed to mighty ROM before activating it. I thought that was the problem, but it sounds like others are experiencing the same issue.

Just RE-FLASHED mightyrom (newest update) and web/data seems to be working again!

I've been having this problem since Nov 5th. I don't think I'm ready to flash to a new ROM and hope for the best. I wanna actually try the stock rom with DATA and see how that work. So far I'm quite satisfied with the stock ROM. I JUST WANT MY DATA!!! :(

Guys, call tell them that u had a friend that had the same issue. it turned out to be his profile on the network was corrupt. they will delete it and rebuild it and be done. i had the exact same issue. they fixed it in 3 days.

try this
Pull the battery for 15 min. this will cause the network to drop your phone. then replace it. boot and dial *22803 then dial 1 for English and then 1 again for provisioning.

see if that works. they may have already fixed ur issues but if u don't pull the battery it wont take. ur phone has to drop off the network so it can be reset on there end.

thanks juggalo_x. took a shot at doing the whole reprogramming. it all went-thru, phone had automatically soft resetted.. still no data.

was told to take the battery out for 12 hours as it takes the network that long to refresh it self. Been doing this every night and still no fix. I keeping putting my user name and password in for the data connection just like Telus rep told me to and no change.

Ok, so I think i just fixed the issue by changing me plan. I was on an older plan where you had to pick your plan and your data package separate. Just updated my plan via online and waited the 15min with my battery out and what do you know. I went and put my user name and password (user name is your cell number with area code@1x.telusmobility.com or @mb.telusmobility.com and your password is your MEID or numeric ESN). It seams to be working fine and i will update in the morning. Time for bed now. Hope this helps all:)

whats at you did by changing your plan was remove your profile from the network and it rebuilt it with your new plan.

Exactly what i was saying is the issue. you profile on the network is corrupt. thats exactly how they fixed mine they deleted my plan and recreated it on the network the 9th and it was smooth sailing. I have a feeling this is all related to there mass data package deal change and there GSM network they launched. they just changed all data package plans in the last 20 days.

OK SOLVED!

Flashed over to JUICY's ROM and now my data works A-OK.
Internet, emails, everything is connecting now.

I am still working. This seams to have fixed the issue. Now Telus just has to get a grip.

Mine is still working good since I changed my plan early this morning. I would suggest you call Telus and have them either A- change the plan for the phone, or B delete the profile and recreate it. If they can

Yeah well... HSPL isn't even flashing on this new phone.

This had nothing to do with it, It was a coincidence.

Data just started working a few hours after activation with my bro's new touch pro 2.

Has nothing to do with flashing a custom rom.

either way, all I'm saying is:
1. I unlocked my brand new TP2 and flashed to mighty ROM and then activated my phone. DATA did not work.
2. I re-flashed mighty ROM and my weather data started working.
3. I flashed juicy ROM and all my data started working.

I did also try all the little other fixes people mentioned, but they did nothing for me.

I don't know why it started working, or if the flashing was what helped to resolve it.. but that's what happened!

it started working cause they fixed ur network profile and when you flashed your radio disconnected from then network long enough for them to cycle your profile on the backed.

Calls to Data Network Assistance (DNA) at Telus are pretty useless. The first level guys seem to follow a script, then log a ticket. The second level guys have some training on the phone. I had a Touch Pro 2 for about two months with no issues, then one issue developed so I needed a swap unit. The swap unit has the data call failure, and trying to switch back to my original unit was fruitless, as it now suffers from the data call failure because of activation. No one at Telus knew this was a known issue until I called back and told them about this site. Obviously, there are Telus people who know about this site, but nowhere in their system did they have the error listed as a known issue. I am disappointed that they make everyone wait a minimum of three days of a ticket being issued, even though you have been going through this since Nov 12. Telus is sinking as low as Rogers on this one.

I bought my Telus phone and had no data too. I had the phoen replaced and no data. I flashed roms and no data. Finally, Telus told me this was a known issue and there was no solution right now. I should take the phone back and give up, as they said they may not have a fix for 3 months. Crazy. So I went back to my Diamond and use the Pro2 as a teeny laptop with Wifi and no phone... ONE DAY maybe it'll work. Not today.
