interesting, I'm not trying it until I hear otherwise from this however:

We recently sent out an e-mail that YouMail is free to Sprint users because Sprint dropped call forwarding charges. We need to clarify.
First, Sprint is dropping “conditional call forwarding” charges – charges for calls are forwarded when they are busy or unanswered. This is the conditional call forwarding that YouMail users need, so it’s good news. However:
  • As Sprint has announced officially, this will be happening in mid-November. However, the exact date has not been finalized or announced by Sprint.
  • Sprint is making no changes to immediate/unconditional call forwarding (which uses *72 on the handset to set up) - this usage will continue to cost 20c/minute.
Second, the special dialing codes for turning on conditional call forwarding, like *28, may work now from your handset, but they are not officially guaranteed to work until mid-November. If it doesn’t work on your handset, please do not call or contact Sprint customer care, but wait for the follow up from YouMail when the final announcement by Sprint is made.
We’re excited Sprint is making this change – perhaps too excited, since we have jumped the gun with our announcement. We’re sorry for any inconvenience that this has caused.
Regards,
Alex
CEO, YouMail

Yeah, GV started handling my VM yesterday and it is totally awesome. Unfortunately, I checked my acct usage yesterday on Sprint's site and it was still charging me for forwarding, even though I had used the *28xxxxxxxxxx method to activate conditional call forwarding. I'm in their hometown, so you can be sure it is activated for me. I'm going to have to call Sprint to see what's up. It may be my totally wacked Sprint account or the fact that my GV account & phone # were created in May of 2007 when it was still a little-known company named Grand Central. The owner of the number shows as a CLEC; Level-3 Communications. I believe that is consistemt with GV's one of two VOIP trunk carriers.

But I wouldn't doubt that Sprint hasn't properly carried my 10+ year-old account over through their multiple CMS systems throughout the years.

BTW, the official Sprint press release said Nov 8 for conditional call forwarding.

Does conditional call forwarding work if you hit ignore?

Well I checked my account balance. No charges are showing up for call forwarding or anything.

The Sprint rep yesterday assured me it would not cost a thing. He made a note that if it does cost anything, to remove the cost.

My opinion on the matter: It's safe to use *28 for this and there's no point in *72 or *73 er whatever. If the *28 method does the exact same thing, and the *7- charge money, then duh, only use *28 and whatever number you want.

*28 is all I used and it goes to voicemail when I don't answer, set to ignore, or have the phone off. Haven't tried it on a 3 way call (busy) but I'm sure it'll work.

lol you know what's funny? Stupid *** comcast email deletes your email once you read it (even when you tell it not to) so I logged and got the invitation one day, but didn't copy the info for whatever reason, and when I went back to check it again it was gone. I signed up again and never received another email.

I could strangle whatever dope setup comcast email.
