Telus HSPA Network Live today? Will TP2 World edition work on it?

Title says it all, With Telus HSPA network supposedly going live today, will our TP2 world edition Phones be able to use this network rather than the CDMA network?

I already tried switching to GSM only mode and the only network my phone saw was Rogers, and of course it failed to authenticate on Rogers.

Comments anyone?

No. At least not right now. There has been discussion and speculation that it MAY work with a future update, but as I said is only speculation.

I think we'll need a new radio ROM for this to work properly. I'm gonna call loyalty and find out.

"The Touch Pro 2 is a CDMA Phone it will never work on the new network." - Customer Service Guy (hencforth known as Kerpal"

"What? Do you even know anything about this phone it has two radios, it runs on pretty much any frequency." - Me

"Oh so you have a sim card?" - Kerpal

"Ya, there you go!" - Me

"Can I put you on hold?" - Kerpal

"Yes." - Me

......

"This phone has a GSM SIM Card, so you have to get a different phone to get on the new network." - Kerpal

"I know how these things actually work. "GSM" is just a name, the radios in this phone have the capacity to channel the frequency of the new HSPA network."

"Well maybe you should cal HTC." - Kerpal

*hang up*

So I wouldn't count on Telus for this one.

We're gonna have to count on Juggalo_X / the Elite Team for this one too.

Hopefully it is just a radio flash.

I forget where I read it, but in the FCC report it said something about the phone being locked by firmware? Or something along those lines

Hopefully its just a matter of time :D

Guys telus HSPA network runs off of 850/1900 mhz, our device only does HSPA 2100. we are SOL

the kicker is telus used to say they would support HSPA 2100, and i was assured id get on the new network.... now i check there site and TP2 is not in the supported device list.

we got boned.

But if Rogers runs on 1900/850 same as telus, and my phone sees Rogers network just fine, then doesn't this mean it would be able to work on the new Telus network? (No doubt with some hacking?)

rogers runs on 850MHZ HSPA for 3g, notice we can only catch rogers edge network. I have a rogers sim in mine no 3g.

you guys are confusing HSPA bands with GSM bands. Our device Supports quad band GSM and 2100 HSPA only.

Hey Jug, was wondering what you think would happen if we flashed a tilt 2 radio onto the phone?

The specs have only UMTS 2100 listed, however couldn't that be because they locked the other bands? By unlocking we would have access to all the bands, and then we just need to flash a tilt 2 radio?

Ofc then the GSM radio on a CDMA device thing comes up.

What if we dont use the CDMA bands at all and just use it on Rogers? Would the tilt 2 radio solve our problems?

Re: Telus HSPA Network Live today? Will TP2 World edition work on it?

I was excited about the TP2 and HSPA. Asked L&R about it in early September, "oh yeah, it'll work". When I picked it up at the Telus store a week later "Oh yeah, it'll work" I was one of the believers that it had the 1900 band HSPA locked away in there somewhere and thought it would be foolish for Telus to launch a new Smartphone that worked on other HSPA networks but not theirs. However, I've been forced to ask two questions.

Why would they lock it and keep us all in the dark ("HaHa, it had it all along, We made a funny!")? And....
If it already works on their CDMA network, which covers just as much ground, if not more then the HSPA network, what is their incentive for them to allow it to connect to their HSPA?

So I'm starting to feel more and more like it's probably not going to work. Initially, I was kind of upset about it. Now that HSPA is here though, I'm ok with it for the following reasons.

I continually travel to Saskatoon, Regina, Yellowknife, and Whitehorse, locals that won't be online till Spring 2010 at the earliest.

I have a pretty sweet plan from L&R, still doing the $15 unlimited data, and I don't think you can swap that stuff over to the new HSPA network. Maybe that would be their incentive to get me swap over?

I'm still with you. I hope I have the option to swap to HSPA with my TP2 in the future, but I still have a cool new phone and CDMA is working out ok for now.

According to Olipro, in an interview, he stated that regardless of what bands you get to work on the TP2 it won't work because the antenna is wrong.

Re: Telus HSPA Network Live today? Will TP2 World edition work on it?

So I got a friend who has a new iPhone GS on the Telus network to let me try his SIM in my Touch Pro2 (also Telus but unlocked) with the thought that I might be able to try connecting to the new Telus HSPA network. Well it did not detect a network at all when I forced it to GSM which was not the case when I tried my daughters SIM from her iPhone on Fido (Rogers). That time it immediately found the Rogers network although I was unable to access their HSPA either. So I guess it is clear that the new Telus Netork is pure HSPA with no support for standard GSM and the TP2 clearly lacks the ability to connect to the new HSPA network. Now the question remains does it lack the hardware to connect or is it locked out by software? Any thoughts on how we can find the answer?

I got my friend to do the mobilespeedtest.com test and he was getting ~3500 KPS on HSPA while I was getting only ~800 KPS on EVDO
