TomTom Trouble

Hi All,

I've searched on TomTom and didn't run into this one. When I first got my TP2, I inserted the MicroSD card that I was using on my TP. TomTom Navigator 6 was installed on it and it immediately attempted to install TomTom onto the TP2. The install failed with a message saying "memory exception". Now I cannot uninstall TomTom nor will any further attempts to re-install TomTom work. I tried a hard reset and restoring using SPB backup, but unfortunately it re-installed the damaged copy of TomTom. Does anyone know how to remove those damaged files?

I've read conflicting reports here about TomTom. It seems some have it working and others don't. My questions to the group is: Will TomTom work and does anyone have any ideas of how to fix this without a hard reset and re-installation of my progs one by one (ugh!)

I am now using TT7, not TT6.

How about just install clean without the backup.

Did you google the error message?

I didn't know that TomTom 7 was available in the US. I thought that was only Europe. When I go to their website, there is only Navigator 6 that appears. Were you able to get it somewhere?

I did get completely get rid of the old install last night by manually removing all entries in the registry and all files that referred to TomTom.

I have read in other entries that Tom Tom messes up the bluetooth stack but others have it working ok, so I'm a bit confused.

Im running tomtom7 too with no problems. There is a bluetooth prob but all you have to do is delete a couple .dll files and its all good.

hey fr0st. has anyone found a workaround for the traffic? i bought a subscripton last year and it's ran out and i sure as heck don't want to spend the money again if it's not going to work.

for now i've switched to iGO8. runs ok but i do miss the traffic.

Try installing this cab to your sd card.

{NOTE} This is not warez! This cab contains no maps, voices, cars or POI's.
This is strictly the software cab and is useless unless you have the rest of the files which are available from the official site, and it sounds like the Threadstarter has already purchased it.

Thank you!! I installed it and it did throw an error, but apparently not a fatal one because it did start. A couple of more questions:

Will my old Navagator 6.xx maps work? And, yes I did buy the maps. In fact, I have purchased 2 sets of 6.xx maps ( an older one and another about 9 months ago).

Also, do you know what .dll files I need to delete?

Thanks a bunch!!

Update:
I searched and found the bluetooth files to delete. I deleted them and so far all appears well. Bluetooth now works (I think...) and TomTom starts and works but without maps I can't tell much. I may try one of my old maps later tonight. Thanks for the help.

\Windows\BtSdkCE30.dll => \Windows\BtSdkCE30-TomTom.dll
\Windows\BtCoreIf.dll => \Windows\BtCoreIf-TomTom.dll

Rename them to whatever. Do a soft reboot.

Do a see all files if you cant see it.

Re: TomTom Trouble

I think I have TT 7.905 or 7.910 installed...I forget the exact build number. At any rate, the core functionality works fine. I have had some occasional issues with different builds and getting them installed on the TP2. But the 7.9xx version seems to be the easiest to work with.

As far as lag, I know I haven't found a fix. I've tried various tweaks I've found on the net and haven't noticed any performance improvements with the internal GPS. However, using my old Emtac BT GPS seems to work pretty good. There is still a lag of about 2 seconds, but it's workable. I'll sure be glad if someone can figure out how to get the same performance, or better, from the internal GPS chip.

I know it is funny how we can find fixes for a lot of stuff but this gps lag :(

Re: TomTom Trouble

They couldn't fix it on the TP1, either. I find that IGo8 works well and has nearly zero lag. I guess I'll just stick with that for now.

Thanks. Is there a trial map I can use to make sure TT7 works on my TP2 correctly? I can buy U.S. Western map for 59 USD but I want to make sure it will work before I purchase. TIA.
