Re: droid on tp2

People having been working on getting android to run on the TP since the os came out but havent got it to where you can use it fully. There is no data or voice so its purely for looks. If android 2.0 gets ported to the TP2, it will be awhile for it to become functional and be loaded onto the device.

Don't see this happening anytime soon. You can emulate but not fully port it over yet.

Re: droid on tp2

I like how VZW has people convinced DROID is a whole new OS or something. It's Android...stock Android 2.0 in fact.

Re: droid on tp2

This has been dating back to when android came out and people were trying to get it on the Vogue and Titan..

http://it029000.massey.ac.nz/vogue/

Note: I did not test it on the TP2

HaRET isn't an emulator

And yes, according to dzo, you can port it over, but lose access to stuff like the CDMA service menu, which is why it's HaRET for now

Ummm, probably because Android 2.0 is a whole new OS?

Re: droid on tp2

We should be seeing working data, since the hero was released along with the SDK.

Re: droid on tp2

I'll clarify: IMO, it is an update to an existing OS. What I meant by my post was that with their advertising, VZW has some people convinced that "DROID" is a new OS when in fact, Android has been around for well over a year and is not named "DROID."

Droid is the name of the phone, not the OS.

Android runs on GSM Touch Pros with working data and voice...I have it on my Fuze.

Re: droid on tp2

I would think that with CDMA phones now running Android, the Hero kernel release, and Android working on a 3.7 inch screen with hard keyboard the pieces are falling into place.

Re: droid on tp2

the tp2 is an international phone supporting GSM, so may be data and calls is gonna work using android, that will be nice...

Droid is the name of the series of android phones verizon will be releasing, its not the name of a single phone

Then what is the real name of Motorola's DROID? Because even the retail box labels it as just DROID, and every other Verizon DROID phone I see mentioned, has another name attached, like the Eris

I would switch.

because thats how they're marketing it

theres even a article about how Droid is their marketing for android devices, its not a single device

Re: droid on tp2

^^Correct (and telsea: I know, that was the point of my posts) Anyways, The Motorola DROID is the name of the new Moto device being released, there will also be a DROID Eris, made by HTC, launched alongside the DROID. DROID is VZW's name for their line of Android devices, regardless of what version of Android they are running (Moto DROID is 2.0, HTC DROID Eris is 1.5...unfortunately)

Re: droid on tp2

I was just letting the OP aware, since he/she asked about "droid" on the TP2. Regardless if it's one phone or 100 phones.

Re: droid on tp2

No matter what happens I will always call Android, droid. Droid has always been short for the word android. VZW is succesfully making me sound less accurate. I always felt a little like The Fonz saying droid instead of android. dammit man! Verizon steals the tiny amount of cool I own. Anyway on the reals gsm android on htc winmo phones is a reality; data and voice. CDMA is a little slow on the uptake due to a lack of devs and the lateness of Sprint to ..droid, I think. You can keep up with all the happenings here: http://www.htc-android.com/viewforum.php?f=5

No it hasn't. Lucas came up with the word in Star Wars, hence the copyright. It just means robot. Remember the line "These aren't the droids you're looking for"? Yeah, he didn't mean android, because R2-D2 is certainly not an android
