Force 1x Data?

Anyone know how to force 1x? EVDO is killing me, especially in fringe areas. Had a quick way to do it on my Diamond via Mode of Operation, but can't get it to work with TP2. Any Hope?

Re: Force 1x Data?

This registry hack used to work with my Touch Pro, but does not with the Touch Pro 2. I'm wondering if there is another setting somewhere needed to unhide the Mode of Operation?

Enable hidden option of "Mode of Operation"
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting

Change the option HiddenModeOperationPage from 1 to 0

Then go to Phone/menu/option/service/and check in the list, "Mode of Operation" should be at the bottom. You have 3 choices, Hybrid, EVDO, and 1X.
Once you have checked the box and hit ok. You can switch back and forth without having to soft reset.

Re: Force 1x Data?

I remember being able to change it in ##DATA# or ##DEBUG# menus, but can't remember how, or if it is possible that way with the TP2

I have tried the old reg edit and cannot get this to work either. Anyone have the solution?

you can't go to
start>settings>personal>phone>click services tab and is there an option in there?
not sure if it is or not, but that's how it is on my TP1.

no, the stock rom doesn't have this option, unfortunately

I posted the same question in HF.

dial ##778
talk
select Edit
Enter unlock code its : 000000
select View Info (on the bottom left)
Select Modem Settings
Press and hold on "Preferred Mode"
Choose Edit
Then select cdma only

The device will reset and you will be 1x only

I dont know if there is an easier way.

nothing because the unlock code won't work (at least on sprint)
the unlock code is your MSL (and there's a couple ways of obtaining it if you need it)
:)

What if we want to force EVDO, similar process?

Re: Force 1x Data?

I have been lurking, following this issue for my Sprint TP2. It was stuck in 1x and, for the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to get it back into EVDO. I was on the verge of returning the phone.

These settings, tweaked for the opposite purpose, saved me a huge hassle. Thanks!

How dare you request an unlocker? J/K
Actually, yes this is a great temporary solution for me! Thanks!

if you do the reg hack, then you pick "EVDO" in the (Mode of Operation) ...but remember you will bypass any phone calls and texts since they use 1X and you are forcing EVDO.

But the Reg hack is not working on the Sprint TP2. Hopefully someone figures it out. For now the ##778# Menu is a temp solution, which requires a MSL on Sprint.

I chose the CDMA option within the ##778# menu. Is this the right one? I know it is for 1x, not sure for forcing EVDO.

Yep, CDMA only forces 1x, not sure about forcing EVDO, maybe try CDMA HDR.

My battery life has definately doubled after forcing 1x.

Has anyone figured out how to enable the 1x option under the phone menu yet?

Re: Force 1x Data?

hey guys, im pretty sure that there is a program someone made that will "force" 1X and let u pick other applications that need to use 3G/edvo (meaning that when u open these applications youve assigned to 3G they will open 3G but when u close them 1X will be back)...its suppose to save battery power especially if youre a heavy texter...i cant remember the program but if someone finds it they should post a link

still looking. anyone?

Re: Force 1x Data?

Hmm...

Allow me to get this right.. if I force EVDO to be active, I won't get any calls or texts at all whatsoever? So much for hopes that I would be able to engage in a conversation and browse the web at the same time...

Was this an issue with original TP1s?

This has got to be what you're looking for: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478519

It is called WMLongLife and was created by none other than Chainfire on XDA-Devlopers. It works really well for me. Keep in mind though that a few people that have used it in the past has been stuck with 1x and couldn't get it back without a hard reset or DMU reset from Verizon.

that looks interesting but I would just like to enable mode of operation so I can manually switch modes.

Re: Force 1x Data?

FYI, using a Sprint TP2 with stock rom, if you do the above edit but choose Automatic instead of CDMA, you can then successfully control the 1x vs EVDO using WMLongLife (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478519). This worked for me, hope it helps someone else! Nice because it doesn't require a reboot b/w changes.

Edit: Ok so the whole setup works well except that for some reason WMLongLife being installed at all seems to kill any data connection, which pretty much defeats the purpose of the whole thing. It switches beautifully b/w modes, even with the automation, but will not establish a data connection successfully. Any other software out there that does what WMLongLife does in some form or another WITHOUT the mortscript stuff, which won't work on the TP2 because the registry edit doesn't work?

Edit again: Ok so setting it to Automatic as I did just has it choose CMDA HDR Only again, so I don't really know why WMLongLife worked for me at all. More on this as I figure things out. Please chime in if you have ideas.

Re: Force 1x Data?

Given that 1x is used for voice, I was under the impression that anywhere that you can get signal, 1x will exist, and therefore you would require less power to stay on 1x only. I guess at this point I will set it to 1x only through the previously stated method in the EPST and manually set it to EVDO when needed. I hate requiring a reboot! Post if you have alternatives, please!
