Need Help concering Verizon TP2
A few things first, before I get into my post. For those of you who remember my "TP2 vs. MY TP" thread, yes, I'm thinking about getting the Touch Pro 2.
The reason why I'm planning to upgrade is because I still have an Alltel phone and an Alltel plan, and Verizon is offering an incentive for us to get Verizon phones (it's pretty much a HUGE discount). Anyway, I plan to get the Touch Pro 2 from this discount. So I have two questions for all TP2 users. Now that you have been using your phones for a while now, I want you to tell me how it works. 1. Do you still like it? 2. Does it get hot at all? 3. How is the battery life? 4. Here's the main thing. For those of you who play games on the phone, are you able to control the games using the arrow keys on the hardware keyboard? Thanks for all of your responses! |
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
Had mine since launch.
1 - Still Love it! 2 - Not really. When talking extended periods of time mine gets a little warm but not hot. 3 - All day using the phone & data. 4 - N/A for me. |
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
I too came from Alltel & got the TP2 as soon as I could. I also got a GREAT deal to get 2 phones for me & the wife. To answer your questions:
1: We BOTH love this phone! 2: It gets warm but never has gotten hot on me at all. 3: Battery life is good...has always lasted all day for me at work(13+ hrs/day) 4: I don't know. The games I play all use the touch screen or g-sensor. One thing I do give as a caveat is that I had a great family plan through Alltel that Verizon can't match. So now I'm paying more than I was before (and getting less for it.) I hope you can get a better plan than I did. |
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
I still love this phone, and *just* about have it set up they way I want it.
It gets hot if I'm using WiFi and a ton of programs, but usually not. Battery life for me is all over the place. Sometimes it goes hours and only loses 5%, sometimes it sits on my nightstand overnight and loses 70% and dies. I'm not in it for the games, the ones I do have tend to use the accelerometer. |
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
The plans that Verizon offers is another thing that concerns me.
I don't want to have to pay too much more, but I'm not the only one deciding if the plan will be worth the switch, so I guess I can't really comment on that for now. BUT I do have another question; if we do decide to switch, what are the chances of them being able to ship me my phone right away? The lastest news I heard about the Touch Pro 2 is that it's out of stock, so will I be able to get one right away? |
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
When I ordered mine, I got it the next day

The phone does get hot from time to time especially when connected to PC. Never just on battery power. For how small the battery is the battery life is actually great. There is also a extended battery floating around the net...just google it. The battery doesn't last the whole day if you've been emailing or your phone updates email often and you been playing wit ur phone it will burn up the battery quick...but I bought a cradle so i charge two batteries at a time and take both out if ima be out all day doing a lot. With the games |
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
when will VZW get it back in stock? I've been checking for a week with no luck
|
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
I love mine. Best HTC product I have owned.
Does not get as warm as the xv6800. Battery lasts one day with data connection always on and checking emails/pushing a couple Opera pages. Don't know but I do intend to start looking for more games to play on it. Neal |
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
Some peope checked every day and they had some back in stock for like an hour before they sold out again. :P My friend finally got his, this was about a week ago.

Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
1. Do you still like it?
Yes. Best device I've ever owned. Blows the TP1 out of the water. 2. Does it get hot at all? Never for me. 3. How is the battery life? I take it off the charger at about 8 am and at 1am I'm still at about 50%. Ridiculously good battery life compared to the TP1 4. Here's the main thing. For those of you who play games on the phone, are you able to control the games using the arrow keys on the hardware keyboard? N/A for me too. |
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
Best smart phone device I've ever used. Period.
Doesn't get hot at all for me. Great battery life. It has far exceeded my expectations. Been away from a charger since 7 AM this morning and in a crappy signal area and I'm still sitting at 73% battery at 12:30 PM with full push e-mail/data. Can't answer the games question, sorry. |
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
It seems like nobody really uses this phone for games... but everything else about it sound good.
I guess the only thing now is to see if I can find a Verizon plan I like (or one that my family likes). That might be kinda tough... |
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
as far as games i would recommend reading through some of the game threads. keep in mind that the tp2 runs wvga resolutions 800x480, therefore only certain games will run properly (full screen) on it. i use it for game but just not any that required directional buttons (yet). However there is a "keyboard controller" cab that can be installed on your phone that will allow you to map keyboard keys to any function, therefore you should be able to apply this to games.
here is list from a thread here about games that function in wvga properly: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=82849 there are plenty more threads concerning this issue as well. best advice is choose a game you want then search for its wvga compatibility. I love this phone, very glad i switched to it. The battery life exceeds my expectations for a wm device, it is simply amazing. As far as heat goes, if you are referring to the tp's issue of getting rediculously hot when tethered or charging and using, then the answer is no, the tp2 does not have that issue. it may get warm or hot by definition to some, but it is not an issue and does not impeed on functionality, the issue was definitley fixed for the tp2. hope this info helps, and good luck |

2. Warm but not hot. And only when it's on the charger, not while on the battery. 3. Outstanding with tweaks i.e. data disconnect after 1 minute 4. I only use the touch screen for games but there are a lot that use the g sensor instead of the arrows. |
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
1. LOVE it.
2. Negative. 3. Excellent. Lasts all day for me. And that's with BT on all the time. 4. N/A |
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
I've had mine for about three weeks now. A little bit of love and ahte at first, but I've grown to love the huge screen.
My friend's got warm when he didn't know better and had about 15 apps open and had it in a TP1 holster for about four hours, and I remmeber charging it and talking on the phone for a few hours one night made it a bit hot, but those were the only two incidents. Battery life is okay. Better than my TP1 stock, but never more than a day and a half with moderate usage. S2U2 probably plays a big part in that, but I love it. Most of the games I've tried to play using the arrow keys didn't work because of the D3D driver issue, but for the others, it worked perfectly. Lately though I just rock Bookworm and Bejeweled 2. |
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
I need to put an addendum here - if I'm running Bluetooth, GPS, and the Data conneciton at the same time (using TomTom for example) while charging, it DOES get warm. But that's the only time.

Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
1. I like it alot although maybe thinking about switching to Android since I get bored easily and I do not need complex business functionalities unlike others.
2. Only time I ever noticed it getting a bit hot was when I was running igo8 for a extended time. 3.This one is tricky, sometimes it lasts all day with only 20% used some times dies after 6 hours. 4. Games can be tricky to play I have hard time getting use to the small buttons AND non-multitouch screen makes it difficult to play with on-screen buttons. EXTRA: as far as plans go, it is the exact same price as ATT plan, for me I pay about $55 for voice and data (with school discount) with google voice I do not need to many minutes. |

Would be a stupid move. Just based on the number of reviews on their own page there is a higher demand for the TP2. Anyone heard any info on when/if they'll get them back in stock? |
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
1) Yes. I had the TP1 and just got it by stealing someone's upgrade on our business account. I wasn't expecting much since I knew the internals were practically identical, but I was nicely suprised. MUCH more responsive, even stock firmware, I am liking the large screen more than I expected, and I knew I would like the keyboard better, and I was NOT disappointed.
2) Yeah, it gets warm with use just like the TP1...kinda toasty in some cases (GPS, 3d gaming, long calls most notably.) I would have to say it's about the same as the TP1, maybe a teensy bit better. 3) I'm a light talker, but it seems about the same as the TP1. I can go 2 days on it if needed. Many others find it dies partway through the second day, or end of the first for heavy users. 4) Yes...they register as a normal up, down, etc. I find it a bit awkward with them on the right though, but I have ripped up some NES games with it pretty good. |
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
It's good to get a report on how the TP2 handles games! Thanks.
I guess I'll get it then. I was gonna get either the Pro2 or the Imagio, but I don't know if I could've handled not having a hardware keyboard. I still haven't talked to Verizon yet. I'll let you guys know how it turns out. |
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
Why not stick with the Alltel plan? I bought my TP2 on the release day through Verizon telesales and I'm still on an Alltel plan. Everything works fine. Plus I have the added advantage of roaming on Sprint EVDO after installing older Alltel PRLs.

Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
Well, I didn't want to just buy it because, honestly, I don't feel like it's worth $299, or even $199. It has a bigger screen, supposedly better keyboard, an audio jack and a good speaker phone (those last two I could really do well without), and I just don't see those features as being worth that much of my money. But if I can get it for say... $80-$100, then that's a different story...
By the way, we found a Verizon plan that's close enough to the one that we had before. In the end, we'll lose about 1500 minutes off of our plan (it's a 4000 minute plan; before we had 5500), but anyway, we don't even use more than 2500 minutes a month, so it works out in the end. So it looks like I'll be getting my TP2 soon, if they don't try to tell me that it's not in stock that is. :D |
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
I called Verizon today, and they told me that the Touch Pro 2 was out of stock. When are they gonna get back in stock??
|
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
the only thing different I have from the majority of the responses is Battery Life Sucks.
I assume it depends on where you are coming from I had a Samsung I760 and the battery would last about 3 days on average. So to me 1 day of battery life is terrible. Lenny |

Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
I called verizon today about getting a replacement of my TP2 and was quickly transfered to the supevisor. He informed me that they have no idea when they would be getting more in and that I can choose any phone of my choice as a replacement. This sucks because I really love the TP2. Maybe I will change to the Droid.

Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
OH my goodness, I really REALLY hate Verizon...
they had the TP2 in stock on the web page, and those reps gave me the run around until it went out of stock again! If that was Alltel, I'd at least have my phone ordered by now. I even tried to order it on the website, but the site froze when I was processing the order, and it didn't go through. I don't know if there can be a cell phone experience worse than Verizon's... I am NOT looking forward to my time with them. |
Re: Need Help concering Verizon TP2
Verizon must have received a few, but not near enough to satisfy demand. I noticed they were in stock Saturday morning and ordered one. By Saturday night they were out of stock again. But I received my FedEx tracking number this morning, and delivery should be Tuesday.
