10/24 CURRENT unlocker status

QUOTES

<@cmonex> SPL IS OF COURSE FREE

<gspitman> cmonex: can you tell us if you plan for a release today? or no? That's all I really need to know and I can leave.
<@cmonex> gspitman: as olipro is not home yet, i dont know. (he's responsible for server) so lets say no just to be sure

From my understanding the HSPL unlocker has been done and will be free. They are waiting to release the HSPL unlocker with the SIM unlocker. The HSPL unlocker allows you to flash different roms. The SIM unlocker will allow you to use any USA GSM network and flash different radios.

The SIM unlocker costs money and therefore they have to set-up a server to verify your license etc.

Please keep this topic civil. Regardless don't expect a release today (Saturday).

Sprint phones are already carrier unlocked on the GSM side.

Yes, but they dont work on US SIM cards no matter what. You can unlock Telus and Verizon ones for free (through the respective carrier) and it will work on US SIM cards.

Aren't they unlocked only for NON US GSM carriers but locked from US GSM carriers (AT&T, T-mobile)?

From what she was saying though, the HSPL also requires a license/activation, even though it is free. Basically, it will require an internet connection and a PC.

I apologize in advance if I read what she said wrong.

It's obvious communication has been the #1 problem here. Hopefully lessons have been learned for the future to limit (not possible to prevent) what we've had over the last few weeks, the last week especially.

curious as to why the sim unlocker is charged? Just because its a unique service that well can make em a bit of cash? I have no personal need for it but am curious.

Re: 10/24 CURRENT unlocker status

Yes the HSPL unlocker will require an internet connection, will verify a license and if the unlocker is up to date which from my understanding is how the gsm HSPL unlocker works.

When I questioned cmonex if license was something purchased she said no.

Not to start any problems Bluruld. I just couldn't help but notice how you attacked me in chat regarding the discussion of the HSPL. Yet when I get cold hard facts about it directly from cmonex in our conversation, you feel obliged to post about it here.

Anyway, I was glad we finally got some of our questions regarding the licensing answered.

I don't believe they can legally charge for the HSPL unlocker because it is just making some edits to code that is owned by HTC. Though I'm not sure but isn't that also what the SIM unlocker does?

I'm not sure but she made it very clear the HSPL unlocker is free by saying it several times and in all caps (see first post).

Anyone aware if the SIM unlocker will be a free service for a single user/phone?

SIM unlocker will cost even for single users. Expect it to be around 14 EUR as that is what they charge for the gsm SIM unlocks.

Why does it need money to unlock for the Sprint?

I cant wait.

I guess my only question with all of this is will the HSPL unlock affect those of us that have already gotten our SIMs unlocked from Verizon?

No I think they are just saying that you will need a license for the SIM Unlocker. Every other HSPL unlocker has just been a download link or attachment.

Edit: Well I take it back. I guess you will have to get a license for the HSPL Unlocker. But that's ok with me. Whatever it takes for me to be able to flash my phone as many times as I want, then that is what I will do. I'm just itching to flash. Yes I am a Flash Addict.

No, the SIM Unlocker is separate from the HSPL Unlocker. It will not affect our Verizon SIM Slots.

It won't affect your Sprint SIM Slot either. That is why they are creating the SIM Unlocker. Verizon Users can just call Verizon and have the SIM Unlocked completely. Sprint made their's special because it is already unlocked but only for non-US GSM networks. So to be able to use an AT&T SIM or T-Mobile SIM Card you woould have to have the EliteTeam SIM Unlocker.

They used community money to build a pay to use product...It wasnt the HSPL that has been holding this up..Its the Sim Unlocker that they want to push at the same time although you guys paid/donated for a HSPL....And who will support the Sim unlocker that will cost? Uh......the same people who took your money and took months to make sure the community donated. Then didnt release it, so they could prepare for marketing another product that they know you will want. I think everyone who donated should get there money back or get the Sim Unlocker Free.. PS...This is the reason i didnt donate, because people will take advantage of what your actually donating towards..

If you have something to say negative regarding this post, then write it down and read it to yourself..Thanks.Running for Mayor 2010!

Have you ever seen any other device that you didn't have to pay to have the SIM unlocked by someone other than the Carrier? Check it out and do a little research. There are a ton of apps that unlock other SIM Slots but they are going to charge you. And those that donated did so to support the EliteTeam from being able to purchase these devices so that they could help us unlock our devices. So if you aren't waiting to unlock your device then don't donate, but if you plan on unlocking your device be greatful that there were people willing to donate to the cause.

To make sure I get this right, we have to wait for the Sim unlocker to get the HSPL unlocker?

amw1972 10-24-2009 07:00 PM

Re: 10/24 CURRENT unlocker status

Whether it'll cose us money or not...we'll see when the HSPL is released.

It shouldn't be anything different than the other phones...HOWEVER, if it is any different...and requires you to sign your life away to do it...its a personal choice whether you choose to use their work or not.

If you don't like it...learn to code...and unlock the phone your d+*n self.

As for the SIM unlocker, some I'm sure NEED it...some just WANT it...and some really don't give a craps a** if they have it or not. Honestly...if you want it just so you say you can...you're better off by learning to code and HACK it your d&*n self.

When it gets here...it gets here...people are getting all upset over nothing. NO ONE is twisting your arm to flash your phone, no one is holding a gun to your head to donate to the project. Don't feel cheated if you donated because you DONATED...you're NOT PAYING FOR SERVICE.

Yes it is annoying that we have to wait for them to finish their payed for product(SIM unlocker) so they can release it in conjunction with the HSPL unlocker but it is their products so their choice.

Cmonex did mention that you could provide her your donation receipt for a free SIM unlock.

I may be wrong but I think his gripe was that he feels they mislead people about the time and cost of developing the HSPL not the SIM unlocker. I am one who could personally care less about the SIM unlocker, and I am ure there are many others like this, other wise we would be having these constant threads asking about the release of the SIM unlocker and not the ones we actually have about HSPL.....

Re: 10/24 CURRENT unlocker status

Can someone verify with cmonex if in fact the SIM unlocker will unlock Sprint phone's and allow USA GSM Carrier connections? Or is it just to unlock SIMs that are locked, which Sprint's isn't locked, just not able to connect to US GSM's.

Re: 10/24 CURRENT unlocker status

Sorry if I find this all hilarious.

1. This doesn't appear to be an established corporation or something to that effect so despite anyone being "irked" by what is occurring the world will still go on and the persons providing this probably won't be affected too much by it because, well, they're not providing a service we're paying for.

2. If anything maybe someone might get mad enough that they'll try to start doing this themselves and there will be more than one game in town.

3. More than likely #2 is a pipe dream because people always enjoy nagging about things more so than doing things themselves.

Blah, blah, blah...the world keeps turning. The first few threads on this were understandable but this drama has definitely jumped the shark already. Guess I'll go back to lurking for now.
