Backup before upgrading to winmo 6.5

I just want to back up my stuff such as contacts, calenda, texts and nothing more.

Is using Microsoft My Phone service enough?
anything else i should be doing?

It should be, but its a personal preference. Just remember that MyPhone only backs up certain items.
I always like to keep a backup on my card.
I always have two backups PPCPIMBackup(PIM backup) and SPB backup(full systembackup) just incase something goes wrong.

quick question, when you use PPCPIMBackup and upgrade, do you have to reinstall all the CABs again?

SPB backup is what I use. Backups my entire phone, been using it since the Mogul

When you upgrade operating systems, you will want to manually reinstall software, but can safely restore data, contacts, etc. But don't do a full system restore in this scenario

Thats all I'm using now. Active sync backs up less than my phone and PPCPIMBackup backs up speed dialing, but has never restored it correctly. It probably would not hurt to use PPCPIMbackup if you know your flashing, but I like MY Phone because you can reset your phone anywhere and still access your back up. Just be carefull with the free trial of the premium options. I tested the feature that hard resets your phone. It took 5 minutes before it reset. Come to find out it was reformatting my 8 gb sd card. Just remove the card before "testing" this feature.

Thanks guys :D

i guess since i dont have too applications installed right now, My Phone would be good enough, i have tried deleting/archiving, restoring on it... it's been working great.

might have to get the other 2 softwares after upgrading to 6.5 and start installing like mad.

i just take a copy of my pim file in file explorer/device..... it saves all contacts/ messages/ calender stuff and yea.... then when ya flash, rename the new pim pimtemp, put your copy there, soft reset and bamn, contacts and all that back, now delete the temp......

Re: Backup before upgrading to winmo 6.5

I used to use PPCIMbackup until ppcgeeks found that it will corrupt your data. I have stopped using that for now until the update it. Myphone works just fine if all you need is contacts, tasks, calendars - documents and that kind of thing. SPB will back up all that and more but I don't need SPB for all that because I have storage card with most of my stuff on it. I just need myphone for contacts and calendars... You can even save messages if you'd like.

So if you have used PPCImbackup in the past, then chances are that your data has been corrupted by some level and will cause problems when you try to restore, problems with the data being in-complete or getting mixed up. If it was me, I would stop using that program as I already have, unless they come up with an update which I hope they do because I loved that program. If speed dials are the deciding factor then maybe thing about adding those back yourself. You can only store what like 9-10 speed dials anyways right? So it shouldn't be a pain in the butt at all.

There's my input.

I have SPB backup and used it when I went from 6.0 to 6.1 on my XV6900 (Touch). However I have read about problems in various forums including SPB's forum about using it when upgrading from 6.1 to 6.5.
