Giving up on my TP2 and Winmo (SPRINT)
So I've long been a big fan of Windows mobile. I've had the Treo 700wx, HTC Touch, HTC Touch Diamond, and now the HTC TP2. I've dealt with issues on each of those phones but I always stood by Winmo. Well I've had my TP2 for a little over a month now and it's already messing up and I haven't even done any customizations too it. It reboots when i try to wake it up from sleep like twice a day. It also keeps telling me that i have 1 unread text message but i don't, I deleted every message and it still shows. Oh yea one other issue that is buggin me is the time stamp for my text messages is randomly a few hours off. Ive done 3 hard resets already as well and the same problems occur. With all that being said I'm thinking of switching to the HTC Hero but I'm a little unsure.
Should I give up on Winmo now or at least wait until the 6.5 upgrade comes out? I'm sick of waiting for that by the way. I mean what's the hold up.. Also has anyone seen or used the Sprint Hero at all? |
Re: Giving up on my TP2 and Winmo (SPRINT)
get a Hero.
Its perfect IMO in the way that i dont have to do ANYTHING to make it work perfectlly (its like if manila3d, and all of HTC's add-ons MINUS Winmo = Hero) sorry if i sound like im selling the Hero too hard but i was in the same boat as you and made the jump..... the difference is not like night and day rather than PITCH BLACK and the SURFACE OF THE SUN!!! EDIT: i was worried that i would miss the WM features till last night when i did something i could only do on a WM device till now, go to one of my favorite websites, download a RAR file from my browser, look deep into the file and extract an image that i was looking for, move it to my pictures folder, and rename it to what i wanted. Sounds simple on a PC but my old Palm Pre could not do things like this and thats why i went back to WinMo. I thought Android was more fancy than functional till i found out i could also do web downloading of ANY file, RAR/ZIP exploring and extracting among other advanced features like document viewing/editing (via market) much better email, synching etc..... bye bye winmo dont need ya anymore |

Technically, no. You just need to contact them and see what they will do for you. Hero is nice, but I can't stand that little rolly ball. It will start to act screwy after a few weeks if you use it much. Maybe that is under the warranty though, dunno. I am waiting for a nice Android QWERTY or Windows 7... TP2 is good enough for me for now.

Re: Giving up on my TP2 and Winmo (SPRINT)
if youre past your 30 days, it will be very difficult for you to talk them into a new phone. honestly, i was in the same boat with you between TP2 and the Hero. the deciding factor was getting a TP2 for free and the Hero is the first of many Android devices to come.
my friend who has a Hero calls it a good OS on a device that feels cheap. i believe Samsung is coming out with some high end Android devices. i would suggest you do a hard reset on your TP2 and wait it out a little bit. i just hope my TP2 will last until Leo comes out :) |

It sucks that u haven't had any luck with your TP 2. I havent had any of those issues. I woulnd't give up on WinMo yet =;. I don't know if u are planning on using a cooked rom but if u are wait and see how that works out for u. I am sure there is a solution for everything u mentioned. I am at work or i would see if i could help you. |

Re: Giving up on my TP2 and Winmo (SPRINT)
funny i was kind of thinking the same thing, even though i have had no major issues with my pro2 and actually love the design of it, it fells like i have done it all before. I have had the exact same winmo devices as the OP and i've gotten kind of bored rather quick with the pro2. alot of the same files i used on my diamond i used on the pro2, and for me this is more of a toy than anything. i remember when i got the vougue and all the cube customizing it was like something brand new and wide open, so i will be watching this andriod OS very closely

I had the Blackjack II and liked it. Some of my co workers at my job got the Hero the first day it was out and we had them on the floor and were not impressed. |

Re: Giving up on my TP2 and Winmo (SPRINT)
If you got a deal with someone on the phone...you should have them email you a confirmation and also to make a note on your acc't. Ultimately, that should be the same phone call that you should have gotten your phone. Sprint is notorious for left hand not talking to the right hand...so any agreements you get from someone on the phone the store is NOT required to honor it. Also, some of the phone reps...namely account services/cancellations/retentions have certain amount of leeway when it comes to doling out deals/service credits/ my $150.00 price match credit:D. Bottom line is, you should try for the exchange over the phone...and have them send you the Hero. They might forget about the TP2 in your possession!

If you think 6.5 and 6.5.1 is that big of a step up, I don't know what to say. Im thinking like win98, win98SE, and WinME when I think of WinMo 6.0, 6.5, 6.5.1 Microsoft dropped the ball by taking so long with Winmo 7. While i am a Winmo lover Android OS and iphones have a lot of features u woulda thought MS would have had out already. |
Re: Giving up on my TP2 and Winmo (SPRINT)
If you still want WM, and you like stablility, get the Treo Pro.
Heck, TT7 works fine on Treo Pro and not the TP2. |

Re: Giving up on my TP2 and Winmo (SPRINT)
There will be some people jumping over to the Hero just for the hype and won't put the time in learning the new OS. These people will likely want to go back to Windows Mobile if that's what they had before.
I'll bet you can find someone who would swap you their Hero for your TP2 if you don't have any luck with Sprint. |
