Actually, I'm not sure VZ will block it as the data is required on a TP/TP2.

Just a minor correction here - VZ requires that you pay for a data plan each month, but I'm sure they'd be happy to charge you anyway even if you ask them to block the data connection itself!:wink:

Re: Need to turn Data Connection OFF (really Off!)

OK, changing Network settings to either a new/dummy one, or the Work setting that has never been configured won't work - it changes itself back to Verizon Wireless whenever Internet access is needed.

So I checked out NoData.cab. There was a 21-page thread there on a very old utility, not surprisingly with some experiencing problems and glitches.

I'm leaving on my trip in the morning, and wouldn't have time to troubleshoot problems should they occur, so is anyone here successfully using NoData.cab on their Verizon Touch Pro 2?

I'd prefer to not have to call Verizon to turn it on/off if I can avoid it.

Thanks!

Click on phone>menu>options>CDMA Services tab> highlight Roaming >get settings than on Data roam guard, either check always ask or click on Never Ask and UNCHECK Allow roaming and than hit ok.

I did that on my TP1, it wouldn’t allow data at all when I had unchecked the Allow roaming option.

Thanks - I'll have to check that out.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.7 (WindowsMobile; PPC; Opera Mobi/35267; U; en; Presto/2.1.1))

as just previously posted that is how you can stop data roaming. second way is to see what country your heading to and find out what network they use. from there change your global setting accordingly. if they use cdma switch to gsm and visa versa. cant connect if you cant find a network though this will prevent calls aswell so would advise of the above post before this method. as for dataplan Every! phone LAUNCHED after the xv6900 needs to have a data plan there is virtualy no exceptions for consumers on this. maybe a business that pays for the phone but not a consumer account

I had some time to check this out. On my Verizon phone, the settings are configured a little differently. There is no 'Roaming' option where you see that on Spring. There is a "Network Service" where I have the option for "Home only" or "Automatic" which might be the same thing.

Regarding ca2l3vin's comment, it is GSM where I'm going, and I may opt to get a local SIM card (I've had my TP2 unlocked by Verizon), depending on the rates, or just use Skype if I can find WiFi.

I might like therefore to be able to keep the phone itself active while prevening any inadvertent data access or charges.

Back to one of my questions, though - is there anybody here successfully using NoData.cab on a Verizon Touch Pro 2? If so, that would probably be the easiest solution for me.

Thanks.

Re: Need to turn Data Connection OFF (really Off!)

I'm not using it on my TP2, but I have used it on a Mogul and an Apache with no issues at all, both were running WM6.1 as well. I also used it on WM6.5 on my Apache for the few weeks I had 6.5 on it and it worked fine there as well. I have no reason to use it on my TP2 though as I have unlimited data and having been roaming out of the country since getting it. I don't see why there would be a problem though with using it though. Every program out there has bugs and issues.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Threadjack:

I have QPST downloaded but not installed, and am wanting to use it to put a new Verizon PRL (I have the file from corolado) on my wife's Brew-based LG enV Touch (unless somebody knows of a quicker way - ##775 and ##775# don't work). Do you happen to know how to do this? Documentation for QPST is hard to come by (although I suspose it may be in some help files once I get around to getting it installed).
