TP2 Battery Life Equal to TP1??

Hey all, I seem to read conflicting reports as to whether or not the battery on the TP2 lasts longer than the TP1. From what I can tell, I still barely make it through a full work day on this puppy (from like 8AM to 9PM, with push exchange email on, wifi off, some surfing - but minimal calls). Anyone else getting similar results? Any suggestions on some ways to improve this? Thanks!

Nope. Considering im running the stock rom and play with my phone ALL THE TIME, its lasting well thru the day. Id have to say almost a good 2 days with texts and programs and stuff.

I dont talk on it as much as others do though...

I have both TP1 and TP2. The TP2 definitely has better battery life.

Hrm, perhaps I got a faulty battery? Do you have any additional tweaks on your phone?

I'm only recharging every other day: new wifi chip is *great* on power when not being actively used. I have noticed that programs that run the screen constantly will pull the battery down a good deal faster (I use it as an e-reader), but overall this thing has a vastly better battery life than my TP1. The wife is now using the TP1 and is *furious* about the short battery life compared to her old Tilt.

As for updates, I just ran Goodthings2life's TP2 package and made some visual changes...box stock otherwise.

Oh, yeah. I'm also using Goodthings2life's Clean up Cab

I would think installing that CAB wouldn't add like 2X to my battery life though...=X Maybe because I am not using WiFi enough or at all =P

Re: TP2 Battery Life Equal to TP1??

I have to agree with rawdikrik. My normal daily use with my TP2 is several phone calls, twitter, mobile browsing, and push mail. It'll last easily a full day and I'm sure I wouldn't have a problem going 2 days even. My TP1 though, would last a mere few hours. I'd barely make it half a day.

Re: TP2 Battery Life Equal to TP1??

I concur. At first I wasn't sure but now that I've used it a week it definitely lasts longer than my TP1. You can still kill the TP2 in a day of heavy usage but moderate usage it will last the day no problem.

One nice thing is the battery application in settings has an information tab with usage stats. Today has been light usage for me, 13.2 hours of standby 1.3 hours of usage (text and internet) and the battery is at 70%. Default settings with wifi off bluetooth on.

It has much better battery life then my previous Touch pro.
My TP was a torch after very minimal use.

Overall a much much better phone that's everything the TP wasn't.

Re: TP2 Battery Life Equal to TP1??

yes the tp2 does have better battery life..non stop web with a touch pro is like 2 hours with the tp2 is about 5-6 but the standby time and couple uses through out the day it smashes tps battery.i wanna install goodthings2lifes clean cab of to search for it

Re: TP2 Battery Life Equal to TP1??

Well my TP1 could barely go 6-8 hours under barely any use. My TP2 basically doubles that now. I pulled my phone off the charger aroun 8 am, and it just died at 9. I have 1 gmail and 1 exchange email setup. Im a heavy texter, moderate browser, and hardly use it for calls(who uses a phone for calls!) but I also spent a good 2 hours in the subway roaming. Overall Im very impressed with the battery life

Sounds like you have similar issues with me, as I usually spend an hour or two roaming. I guess this is what to expect? It's still odd that people can last two days with this thing..

On a related note:I took at look at the battery (I got this phone as a REFURB, not NIB) and it is a Sprint labeled "standard battery" and it says "For use with Sprint Smart Device Snap/S511 by HTC". Did I get some generic battery that isn't normally included with this phone?

Hrm, maybe this could be the source of the problem. Anyone else want to comment on the type of battery they have under the hood? =)

Re: TP2 Battery Life Equal to TP1??

I'll say better just because TP 1 overheated w/ slight usage and drained the battery, but TP2 doesn't have the issue.

If both phones were in stanby, w/ no usage, I think the bettery life would be about the same.

no way! At least not for me. I used to have meetings on Wednesdays, Id unplug my phone at 6 am, drive 2 1/2 hours(not using my phone) then for the meeting we couldnt use our phones. And when I got out around 1 or 2, itd be on low battery from basically 0 use. I couldnt leave my TP1 unplugged overnight, or itd be dead in the morning. Ive left my TP2 off the chsrger overnight and its fine

Do you all think if I call Sprint and complain about not getting a real battery (basically one that is made for the Snap) that they will send me an actual OEM battery?

I am more like the OP in that I am not thrilled with the battery life...there is no way I could make it 2 days without charging...I did not own a TP1 though so I can't make the same comparison...

Today I had around the same usage as this guy above (but with 10 hours standby) and I am at 40%...and I don't even have bluetooth on...I do have the RSS Hub update every 2 hours but that shouldn't make that much of a difference...

Can batteries be swapped out at a Sprint store? And anyone with the cleanup cab installed: What is the highest temp reading you've seen for your TP2? Mine seems a bit warm at times...also is there a way to "recalibrate" the battery in case that is the problem?

most stores dont carry batteries in stock. They can order you 1, or may have 1 laying around. Bit normally they dont stock them

I guess I will try giving Sprint a call and see if I can get the battery replaced. It definitely appears like I am in the minority here...

Try plugging your phone into the charger and surfing the web at the same time. Does the device overheat? if so, its the device..

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=87522

i ended up getting a new device and reusing the battery and can go over 24 hours with heavy usage (i used groovefish for about 3 hours today, had 2 hours of talk time and 18 hours of standby)

Hmmm...might be the phone then...problem is that I am past 30 days (is that a problem or would they still send me one?) and the screen is PERFECT (no dead/stuck pixels)...

Would Sprint send me a replacement and if the replacement is worse overall can I just send the 2nd one back and keep the first?

Do you have phone insurance on your device? If so, no time peroid matters. Even so, within a year I believe you would still be covered by the one year warranty.

For an update to all who have been reading this thread, Sprint is sending me a replacement battery. I will report back with how it works. If I still have the same issues, perhaps I will try to get the whole device replaced. One step at a time...=)

My TP2 Battery is much better than my TP1. Both under heavy use through out the day. 8:15-10ish with no problems. (both sprint stock rom)

I gave this a try and while my phone does get hot if I have it plugged in and use the browser, it doesn't overheat. I assume this is normal?

Mine would get hot to the point where the LED indicator would flash between amber/green and the charging would stop.

However, the replacement can be described as just getting warm with heavy use + being plugged in.
Im willing to bet your phone is to blame

Well the new battery didn't help anything at all, still only make it about 16 hours. However, I never have noticed the LED indicator flash between amber/green. Why do you think the phone is to blame?
