Assuming that you have Active Sync installed.

Communications Manager > Connections > USB to PC > Clear the check box that states "Enable faster data synchronization"

Your right on the operating system, apologize for that one. Regardless the steps stated are to be completed on your device.

I experienced the same issue (also running Vista) and this fixed it. Thanks!

Do you have to have Outlook installed on your Windows 7 PC in order to sync contacts and calendar with your TP2, or is there another mail/calendar program in Windows 7 that replaces Outlook?

I did 2 hard reset and tried to use Activesync on a computer running XP and Windows Mobile Device Center on my laptop running Vista with 3 different cables. Every single time, no luck, neither computer connected the device. All I get is the power, no data. Everything was going fine until about 2 days ago :(
