Using XV6700 cradle with TP2
1 Attachment(s)
For those who still have their cradle from their XV6700, you can use it for your TP2 with a slight modification!
-- The mini usb jack on the cradle aligns with both the XV6700 & the TP2. The problem is that little nub to teh right that goes into the 2.5mm headphone jack. It's a little off for the TP2 & doesn't allow the phone to be seated in the cradle. -- SO, take a wire cutter, fingernail cliper, pair of scissors, WHATEVER you have and cut off that little nub! Voila! The TP2 now snaps right into the cradle & charges or syncs like it should! And, you can still drop the XV6700 in there as you always have. That little nub was just an added measure of support for the phone & holds no other functionality. I don't have pics of mine cradle, as I'm work right now. But, I woke up this morning, made the mod, tested it myself as I ran out the door for work. It works perfectly! AND you can get these chargers all over the web for $5!!! I didn't get a chance to check and see is if the actual battery fits in the spare battery slot on the backside. I'll check this evening. But, if anyone reading this can check & post their findings, that would be helpful. I've attached a stock image to show the nub that show be removed. |

Great mod! Even though I never used my XV6700 cradle, I kept it around for some reason. Hording FTW! I will try this tonight and post my results! Thanks aamon17! |

I wish I would have kept mine...I always sell my old phones. |
Re: Using XV6700 cradle with TP2
how well does the TP2 stand up in the cradle? I always feer that it will snap the USB connector in the phone (that was the problem with the xv6700, phone was basically supported by the USB connector).
Thanks for the mod tip. I have 2 left over 6700 cradles so might just have to mod one and use it again. |

We were typing at the same time! :-) It does stand up. But, it's more wobbly that the XV6700 because it's taller. See my other post about glueing a piece of acryllic to it! Any other ideas are welcomed! |

Re: Using XV6700 cradle with TP2
The other item that I did with my 6700 cradle was took it apart and cut off the nub and replaced it with a true 2.5mm headphone connector. It was a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter that I put in so when I cradled my 6700, I had a head phone jack at the side of the cradle. Then plugged in my standard 3.5mm head phones to it. Looked a little ugly but worked well.
Thinking about modding the cradle again but using a 3.5mm extender since I don't need to adpat. But will have to put in the plastic frame mentioned above to help hold the TP2 more stable. |

It,s amazing how the universe works and all geeks think alike I did this the first day I got my tp2.

Re: Using XV6700 cradle with TP2
Alright, i tried scoring & cutting the acrylic frame with a pair of scissors. It shreaded the edges. Probably need a Dremmel or some type of precision rotatry cutter to get clean edges. I'll see what other plastics are available @ the hobby store . . . Might even just use the original battery doory from the 6700 and trim it!!! Hmmmm....

Lol, I did this as well a few days after I got my TP2 but with the Touch PRO desktop charger...I got a pair of snips & cut out the right side of the charger tray insert (I'm not sure but I believe I used the largest tray insert) & use the piece I cut out as a support for the back of the device which I attached to the cradle by super gluing it. Not as clean as yours but it works well... You can also remove the tray insert & charge your TP2 that way but you have no support... pics below

My Modified Cradle

Okay. So, I wasn't having much luck trimming the acrylic frame with the scissors. So, I had an old plastic CD case laying around. Its just sturdy enough to support the phone. And left me with plenty of plastic to play with.
Ultimately, I ended up with a t-section piece and slightly folded the bottom. Then I bent the arms in, probably more for effect than support. The Gorilla Glue is drying kinda crudely. But, hey, hopefully it will work. Letting it dry over night. If it fails, hey, I'll scrape it off & try another approach. Re: Using XV6700 cradle with TP2
Wow that is hideous... but if it saves me $30 I'm all in! Anyone know if the TP2 battery can be charged in this charger or it doesn't fit?

When I had my ppc-6700 I lucked into a 3 extra cradles for it. When the 6700 finally died and I got the titan, having a desktop charger was a must as I always carry one spare battery. So I modified the 6700 charger to hold the battery for the titan and it worked fantastic. After my titan went for a swim and died I got the TP2 and again faced the need for a desktop charger. So I got out my supplies and modified the 6700/titan chargers to hold the TP2 battery. Take a look at the pics!
To modify the battery slot I used a product called "Mold Magic Protoplast Pellets" do a google search for it. Basically it is a jar of white plastic pellets that you put in water to melt down and then mold it into anything you want. I covered the battery in a very thin layer of plastic wrap and removed the top of the charger case. I lined the battery up with the contacts and put a thick rubber band around it to hold it in place. Then I heated and pressed in the Protoplast mold around the battery. Now you have a charger for your TP2 battery. Fzs |
