I never carry my phones in my pocket I always carry in a belt case. One day I forgot the case and put the phone in my pocket for the day. When I took it out I noticed this rainbow effect. I called and got a replacement. After a few weeks I dropped the phone and wanted another one but didn’t want to pay the $100 so I thought I could replicate the rainbow effect. I put it in my pocket for a couple days and it was back. Got another replacement. Happened on my TP1 and Tp2. This never happened on my Mogul. It only had the white dot thing. I used that issue to get new phones when I had it. Bottom line I can make the rainbow discoloration happen by putting the phone in my pocket and yes I always have a screen protector on my phone.

Just a thought.

Yes, this is what happens. Most people that I know.....well, as a matter of fact ALL people I know, carry their phones in their pockets. It just...natural and normal. I have always carried my phone in my pocket as I am a guy and wouldn't put it anywhere else.

The effect is caused from excessive pressure to the screen as well as temperature changes. These are all stated within the previous pages of this thread. I had the issue so I read them all.

I've had 2 replacements due to this banding, and I will continue to keep in my pocket until I can no longer get replacements. It's not like I'm going to change the way I have used my cell phones for 8 years, simply because of the severely low quality of the screens on these devices.

Ouch man. That really sucks. I really hope I don't get that crap. I've had my TP2 for over 6 months, and I almost always put the phone in my pocket. Started facing the screen towards my leg because I heard it would help protect it if I were to bump it hard. Guess I better pick up a good case and not put the dumb phone in my pocket. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay full retail, or a $100 fee to fix something like that. I passed on their insurance because it's a friggin joke like health insurance ..Geez man.

Actually if you put the screen towards your leg, the curve of your leg adds more pressure to the screen. If it faces outwards, the jean material is stretched across the screen, but doesn't push against it. If you've had it for 6 months no issue....more power to ya. haha. Good luck with it though, and I would recommend a case since you don't have insurance.

Well guys, my screen has been like this for months, but there's been no change in functionality, I think it still works like it did before the rainbow.

Think it is doomed?

I think y'all need to realize that pressure sensitive touch screens don't belong in tight jean pockets. if you want a phone to put in your pocket, get a flip phone.
I hope manufacturer's stop covering to replace this the way that google has said it is user error.
This is really common sense.

Is the banding as bad as the image on the first page? That is how my previous phone got. It just kept growing. When it finally got that large, it would no longer respond to touch on the touchscreen.

If your phone has been like that for months, it works fine, and it doesn't bother you to look at, I'd say don't really worry about it. BUT over time, you will gradually loose touch sensitivity of the screen

It may be common sense not to put it in your pocket, but it really is second nature. Why would they stop covering this policy if it is the screens that are going bad? And most other resistive touch screen devices do not do this. I have only heard of HTC devices. Maybe down the line all touch screen phones will be capacitive (ummm.... ANDROID) and we will no longer have this problem.

I only carry my phone in my pocket, with the screen facing my leg. It has never even been in a case. That's how I have carried it since day 1 (in October). Knock on wood, but I have no rainbow affect.

Thats exactly how I carry mine, but I have had 2 with the issue. You must just be lucky :)

Well I have had 2 Touch Pro 2's- one European version on AT&T that I got back in June or July, and then the Sprint version I got in October. Neither had this issue and I carried both of them in my pocket every day.

My kids also carry their Sprint Touch Pro 2s in their pockets (since October) and don't have this issue (knock on wood).

We do have the Zagg Invisible Shields on our phones, maybe that is somehow protecting them from this?
