Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
I had an HTC Vogue/Touch for the last 2 years, and I never really found it necessary to have a screen protector. It has very minor hairline scratches on the screen after 2 years, that you must look extremely close to notice. Nothing major though.
So my question is, is it necessary to use a Screen Protector with the TP2? How durable is the screen? |
Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
Mine already has a scratch, I don't think they are very durable at all.
|
Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
Absolutely. 1 of the biggest mistakes I made was not buying 1 for my N96. $800 phone shot to hell due to a nice scratch
|
Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
Well the poll is pretty overwhelming. I guess I'll be getting one. I know this is discussed in other places, but since the subject is going here, is there a screen protector for the Verizon TP2 that anyone would suggest?

On my last phone, the HTC Touch (Verizon 6900), I used the screen covers that I purchased in the Verizon store. They lasted months before getting scuffed up and I would just put a new one on. When I would replace it, the screen looked like new! So...my advice...get something for the screen! enjoy |
Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
Thanks for that link to Zagg. I'll check it out.
About how long do these Zagg ones last? Is it noticeable when on? |
Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
I mean, its like $5 to possibly save your phone from who knows what. Well worth it IMO

Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
ok, just checked out Zagg, and it's rather expensive...kinda. Is this like a top of the line protector or something?
Are there cheaper alternatives that would be recommended, or would this be the way to go? |
Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
the words "military grade" make me think its top of line lol
Im definitely interested and think Im going Zagg |
Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
yeah, looks like a good one, and I'm glad I can get it specific to the Verizon phone.
Everything seems to be military grade these days though...or claim to be. Ok, one more question...does this only come with one? And do you only have one chance to apply it? I see the perfect application thread and read through it a bit, so it looks like you have some time to move it around and get it perfect. |
Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
never used a screen protector on any of my phones (hate them). if my phone is not in my hands, it's on my hip. my holster has soft micro fiber interior, and it's all the protection I need. I never put my phone in my pocket, cuz that's where it will get the most wear, and tear.

and when its in your hand its glued?
Damn that pesky gravity, always making my phone hit the ground and get scratched when I drop it |
Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
Definitely needed!

Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
Zagg stuff is OK for full body protection but I absolutely hated the zagg screen protector & threw it out two days after I installed it on one of my TP's.
A MUCH better alternative on the screen is the Boxwave stuff (Brando is super also). Boxwave is MUCH easier to install bubble free & doesn't affect the feel of the touch screen like the sticky/tacky zagg stuff. ~John |
Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
Ok, this is way way way off topic (kindof), but I think you guys may enjoy this little story.
About 2 years ago, my dad and I were hiking in Yosemite. We were hiking Half Dome. And for those of you who don't know what that is, it's a 4,000 foot tall rock, that's cut in half by a glacier. So from where you have to start a pretty steep climb, it's about 900 feet. No I mean steep! You're literally going up these cables, and wouldn't be able to hold onto the face without them. So there's the preface to my story... On the way down these cables, my dad had a camera in a holder on his belt. it was just a velcro holster thing, and the velcro came undone. The camera slid out, and hit once about 20 feet below us, then hit once again about 500 feet down, and landed on a ledge at the base 900 feet down. Very close to another drop of a few thousand feet. I was able to find it, and my parents now use it as a Christmas tree ornament. Couldn't find the battery or the memory card, but the whole body of the camera was pretty well intact...looked like it fell 900 feet down a cliff, but was intact. The End. |

Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
Any name brand stores carry the TP2 Boxwave in stock - or where is the cheapest source?
|
Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
i never buy screen protectors ever. if my phone gets too scratched i just take it into the store and they will fix it for free, maybe its because i have insurance. I can't stand cases and screen protectors because they take away from the beauty of my phone. I feel like if they wanted a screen protector on it they wouldve shipped it that way. i'm one of the 4 who voted no screen protector.
|
Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
Boxwave screen protectors don't affect the "beauty of the phone" whatever.
It seems to me it makes more sense to protect it rather than use it until it's all scratched up & then replace the phone (but that's just me) ~John |
Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
i have zagg on my verizon TP2 and my only upset is it covers the battery cover and the screen but if you check the site you'll see it doesnt cover the surround of the screen. it kinda sticks out more than the battery cover so i feel like it would get scratched first.
besides that i really like the zagg. i always heard about the orange peel feel but mine doesn't get like that unless i apply a lot of pressure to the screen. turn up the sensitivity and use light touches for everything and you'll be set (i think it feels better with light touches, more iphone-like) |

Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
it is necessary for sure, due to medical bills and such ive been too broke to even buy one, thankfully a fellow PPCGeek has offered to send me one because of my situation. I am so grateful

Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
I'm a fan of Ghost Armor myself. Seems to be the best of both worlds between the hard plastic types like Boxwave and the full body flexible types like Zagg. I can hardly tell I have one on and it doesn't detract from the feel at all. Installs super easy also.
|
Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
I also have the ghost armor on the screen. I love it. You can't tell it is even on.
|
Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
you can try http://www.phantomskinz.com They just got the skin for the sprint version and already have the other versions up as well. they also have an ongoing sale. apply independence33 and save 33% off of the screen or body protector.
|
Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
Okay, so let me get this straight.
Boxwave - harder plastic Ghost Armor - halfway between - simi hard plastic Zagg - Soft, Flexible, and sticky I'm personally looking for something that allows my finger to move on the screen as if there were no protector on it. I also want something that is pretty much invisible. It sounds like both Ghost Armor and Boxwave would give me what I want. Is there one that is better than the other/ A reason to get one over the other? I'm seeing great reviews for both of these. |

Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
Ok, that's great. The only thing that I'm concerned about, is that someone described it as a harder plastic. I don't know why, but this worries me. Is it just as easy to install, and is it thick/stick up off the screen a lot?

http://www.boxwave.com/products/clea...-pro2_3688.htm
This is the link to the Verizon version of the Boxwave Crystal. Why is it showing that there's a hole up top? Isn't that for Euro models only? Will the Boxwave for the Verizon version come with this hole on the screen? |
Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
Bump.
Does the Verizon Version of the Boxwave protector have the front camera hole on it? It is showing in the picture to the side in the link that I posted. |

I am a little disappointed to see they are calling it the Verizon version because it is 100% not. Once you try a Boxwave protector you wont use another. I bought a three pack for my Omnia and a year later still had the original on it with only a hairline 1/8 inch scratch! I know this is too much information but i have freakishly hard fingernails and scratched my first (luckily defective) Omnia the second day and my work i760 looks like a bear attack victim! Serious, get one their great! |
Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
Thanks for that first hand info. That's what I was worried about. It seems a little deceptive that they are calling it the Verizon Version. At least they have the picture on the side to make you second guess that it is perfect.
Do you know if they'll update the picture on their site once they actually offer the verizon one? I've got a temporary protector that's covering about 90% of the screen. It's a super cheap one, and has so many bubbles, and orange peal, and tons of other things...and scratches super easy. So I'm hoping for the Boxwave Verizon version soon. Let us all know when the actual Verizon Version is available if anyone sees it come on their site. |
Re: Is a Screen Protector Necessary?
That is right, mine does have the hole but it is off the edge of the useable screen & after it's installed you can hardly see it (I totally forgot about it)
If you use any of the hard covers, that complately obscures it anyway. ~John |
