Changing Message Number

This might be addressed elsewhere but I am a noob...is there any way to change the messaging number in contacts? It is automatically the same as the mobile number.

only way I know is with google voice thats what I use.

if you hit enter in the to field it will bring up your contacts and let you select what ever number from ur contacts.. I hope this is what you refering to
