Verizon's Exclusive HTC Imagio For Sale Oct 6th For $199

The HTC Imagio XV6975 will be the first smartphone on Verizon to run Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional. It is a global device that works on CDMA/EVDO Rev A, GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and HSPA 2100 networks. Features will include a 3.6" 480x800 WVGA touch-sensitive TFT display, TouchFLO 3D user interface, Office Mobile and Outlook Mobile, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, 5MP autofocus camera, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headset jack, on-screen QWERTY keyboard, and will come with a 1500mAh battery. The Imagio will also be the only Verizon smartphone to support VCast Mobile TV (MediaFLO) service, which can stream live TV channels directly to the device. Even though it can be purchased on-line starting October 6th, it won't be in-stores until October 20th. Pricing will be $199.99 after a $100 rebate with a 2-year contract.

Verizon officially announcing the Imagio, Razzle, Shade, Barrage, and Gateway Netbook (Phone Arena News)

my question for this is...how soon till we get our 6.5 update? and would there be anyway possible to take the mobile tv off of the Imagio and put it on the TP2? anyway to get a cab and install it on the vzw tp2 to get mobile tv? whats the likely hood of that happening? just curious

I would imagine as soon as the hardSPL comes out, we'll be able to put the ROM from the Imagio on our TP2s with little modification, as the hardware is virtually identical save the camera and an extra hard key on the front of the Imagio, and the keyboard on the TP2.

As to VCastTV, that will depend on whether it requires provisioning on Verizon's side. I don't see why they wouldn't want to offer it, though, as it will likely make them more money.

From an article on mobileburn.com
The digital TV service comes through to the Imagio via its antenna, which serves double duty as a viewing kickstand.

It looks like it may not work on the pro2 as the antenna is not internal and not on the pro2.

isnt there another way the tp2 could pick up a digital signal tho? like via the internet or something?

its not a big deal just curious slingbox is always a option and offers more channels but im just curious to if the tp2 could get the tv to work.

cant sprint tv be ported to winmo phones jus with a simple cab installation? althought i think they dont get their signal received thru an antenna or anything

MediaFlo/FLO TV does not stream via the cellular network. It is sent via UHF frequencies from broadcast towers. This is not the same as the old VCast. Unless the TP2's hardware has the specific capabilities, it is a no go.

I've had FLO TV (Forward Link Only) on my ATT device for some time. It works great. The picture quality is much more consistent than those that are streamed via cellular networks.

Then I believe the question would be whether or not the antenna lead present on our device. With both devices having the same chipset I would say it isn't unthinkable.

I doubt it. This is considered to be the cdma version of the diamond 2 and AT&T already got the pure. However, htc said yesterday that the Leo/HD2 will be coming to the US in Q1 2010 and my guess would be that will be an AT&T release.
