Camera Settings
1 Attachment(s)
I know there are a million threads about different software you can use to improve / enable certain functions of the camera on the tp2 but below is a pic i took with my tp1 back in feb 09 and its not the best picture ever taken but it looks a heck of a lot better than any picture i have taken with my new tp2. I had no special software and used the default settings (i mave adjusted it to super fine but i dont remember) the point of this thread is to ask if anyone has had any luck changing camera settings on the tp2 to get better quality? Mine is just downright terrible an im embarrassed to send them to people!
Any settings ideas? Anyone? Taken with tp1 |
Re: Camera Settings
your new TP2 should take the same quality pics as a TP, they are basically the same hardware.

Re: Camera Settings
Here's my take on your question.
For one thing, that shot you took with your TP1, looks better then anything I ever took on mine. As jMorton said, same hardware, pretty much. Both 3.2 Megapixel cameras. However, your TP2 has a bigger resolution screen. That being said, it is similar, in my opinion, to how standard definition television broadcast on a HD television, looks much worse then on a standard tube. Now that I've said all that. In my experience, the pictures on my TP2 are actually better, except in low light conditions(no flash). I hope this makes some sense and maybe helps clear things up a little. As far as tweaks go, I don't think anything will really help too much. It is what it is! If a better camera weighs more importance to you then a hardware keyboard, you may wanna take back your TP2 and get yourself the Diamond2 when it arrives next month. It has a 5 megapixel camera. |
Re: Camera Settings
maybe post a pic of the like with your tp2 and post it so we can compair the diff.......

Just thought I'd post my own comparison shot. Now these were taken at different times obviously and at different perspectives. However it shows clearly which one looks better.

Re: Camera Settings
Have you messed around with your settings at all? There are settings for contrast, saturation, sharpness, as well as the white balance settings.
|
Re: Camera Settings
Speaking of White Balance settings. It really pisses me off that it won't hold the setting when I change them. If there a change the defaults?

Re: Camera Settings
Remmer members. HTC has a terrible track record in throwing in cheap parts. just because the motherboard and cpu might be similar dont mean you are getting the dsame CMOS camera.
|
Re: Camera Settings
nope! i havent changed any of the settings at all... I think the problem is that I dont know anything about cameras... I just take the pics and try my best to hold it as still as possible. Can a few other people post a few of your pics so we can see what yours look like? Also if your a camera person/photographer/paparazzi LOL can you help us out with settings advice? Also, does anyone know what ISO is?

Re: Camera Settings
It looks as if they may be using two different cameras in the same CDMA model of TP2's.
One is a Foxconn 3M-AF camera. Can't seem to find much more info about it though. Also looks like some may have a Liteon 08PM17. Again, not much info about either. |

Re: Camera Settings
If you havn't adjusted anything, I would suggest a few things. Try setting image quality to super fine. Sharpness set to +5, contrast set to +4. See if that looks more like what you are after. Also in the white balance, try the setting that looks like headlights or a flash bulb going off.

Re: Camera Settings

Re: Camera Settings
No problem. Glad it helped! Lookin' sharp!

Re: Camera Settings
Tp2 camera is definitely much better than Tp1. Hands down.
You guys are crazy lol! |
Re: Camera Settings
Mike, I definitely agree. I also feel it is a better camera then the TP1's was.
|
Re: Camera Settings
I never had the TP1 but my Diamond camera looks like a 5 megapixel compared to my Pro 2 or anything I have seen posted taken with a Pro 1. People are astonished when I show them pictures I took with my diamond. Its like night and day compared to the Pro 2. That being said I would not take 5 Diamonds for my Pro 2. (Hmmm...maybe I can sell them all, buy a Pro 2 and have $500 in the bank......)

Re: Camera Settings
To the original poster, do you have to take pictures of yourself to test the camera? I don't know about anyone else but it makes me feel uncomfortable just staring at some dude seeing which picture of him looks more detailed. LOL, sorry but I had to say something. :)

Re: Camera Settings
Really? Comin' from the guy with the transfhomos teabaggin in his sig.? Not to mention the robot crotch as an avatar!? Sorry, just had to say something in response to that one. I see no problem with looking at a picture of some dude(fully clothed), to check picture quality. Are we that insecure these days? C'mon man! Meaningless posts like that, do nothing but trigger more meaningless posts like this one and on it goes. We don't need to sift through this kind of crap while digging for useful information. I'm done, that was my 2 cents worth.

In response to the original poster, I also created another thread a few days ago regarding the camera (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=86884). My brother has an app on his iPhone which is a separate camera app. It does something to allow more light to take much better night pictures, and also takes the picture when the accelerometer shows little to no movement. I thought this would be a useful tool if we can do the same on our phones. In regards to changing the settings on our cameras, it doesn't seem to be very effective. |

Edit: Nevermind I found Em. Wow, it really makes a difference. Nice.. Thanks. Also, Mighty Mikes right, Touch Pro2 takes way better pics than my old tp1 and my wifes old diamond, we compared each side by side. |
Re: Camera Settings
this may really be a case of possibly different hardware. I too felt almost immediately that the TP2 shots were not as good as the TP1 shots. I still have my TP1 and have had the TP2 for about a week. They are both Verizon models.
I took some pictures in broad daylight today with the TP2, trying various settings with ISO and Brightness, and Sharpness under advanced. Upon loading them onto my laptop, they looked pretty bad. Very grainy/noisy, even with ISO at 100. I loaded up some TP1 shots I had taken outside in sunlight, and they looked MUCH better. I'm posting this in bed from my TP2, but I will try to remember to post some pics up here tommorow. Even my wife agreed though, when I had her look at them but didnt tell her which was which... hands down felt the TP1 shots were cleaner and better colored. It sucks because otherwise I am loving the TP2! |

LOL I thought about that after I put the 1st one up but then when i put the second one up I figured I should take the same pic (plus the hat) so that the difference would be clear... I'm off to work but when I get back im gonna post some new pics of new stuff. hahahaha |

Those are some pretty awful looking pics.....

Re: Camera Settings
I dont see how anyone is saying the camera on the TP2 is better than, or even the same as the TP1. Several pics I've taken outside, in broad daylight, with both devices, when viewed on my laptop... the TP1 pics are clearly MUCH nicer with far less noise, are sharper but not pixelated, and color reproduction is better (thought neither are exactly accurate).
I'm pissed, to be straight forward. I figured that the TP2 would equal or surpass the TP1 in every way, save of course the lack of dpad and flash. To have such a horrible camera on a high end phone is silly. I love everything else about it, but the camera to me isnt even mediocre. |
Re: Camera Settings
I just upgraded from a TyTN2/Kaiser to my new TP2, and I must say that i was at first bitterly disappointed with the image quality.
But after changing the settings from the defaults, I am now very pleased indeed! My settings now are:
I found that with higher Sharpness settings, the image is smothered with little crosses when you view at 100% zoom .. but dropping the Sharpness way down takes them away and leaves the option open for subsequent Sharpness tweaking of the images taken. |
Re: Camera Settings
Everyone is entitled to their opinion of a product. You can not be banned for having an opinion.
You bought the TP2 for yourself. Enjoy it. Ignore the posts you don't agree with instead of taking them so personal. |

It might SEEM that the unsharp ones are blurry, but they have a lot more detail, which can be brought out in post-processing whereas the over-sharpened images are like that for life. Sorry so few, also it's late afternoon so poor lighting .. but more after the weekend if you're interested :) |

One more 100% crop to illustrate how oversharpening costs you detail.
