Which google chat client do you TP2ers use?

I've heard of:

IM+
OctroTalk
Palringo
fring

I need always on and sound notification of new message. Since it is always on I prefer low resources. Oh and free is nice.

What do you suggest?

I use Palringo. Best feature is that it's free!

Palringo--is it simply a multi-chat client or does it go through some sort of proxy service at Palringo? That is--does the client make direct connections to the respective chat services or does it connect to Palringo and then Palringo makes the connection to the chat service? I don't generally like the idea of a 3rd party proxy service for a variety of reasons.

Thanks.

I just tried palringo and couldn't get it to connect. I tried various installs (storage card vs device). Only once, was I able to connect via a device install.. but then too, couldn't add any chat services. Also, important to note I was using wifi and was connected (another account) on my laptop to palringo.

Ultimately, I gave up and un-installed.

After every reboot, I was receiving an error "Palringo.exe can not start, not a trusted certificate..etc". This is apparently a known error with un-installs. To resolve: go into windows / startup and remove the palringo.lnk shortcut.

From what I could tell, it goes through their servers, which is the main reason I avoid that service as well.

i can't believe so many like palringo, i don't like it that much. I love im+ except for scrolling through contacts, it doesn't work that fast. But the screen visualizations are a big plus.

Thanks. I never like the idea of going through the proxy--email, browsing, or chat. Unless the traffic is encrypted/secure between your mobile device and the actual host, the proxy can capture your password and every packet/conversation. It is a security/privacy concern.

This is why I don't use Opera Mini, Mail2Web, DashWire (trusting them to store all my contacts, etc.), and the alike. Read some the privacy policy, and it's enough to scare you away. Most companies mine data based on your usage patterns. How am I assured that their system cannot be compromised?

I'm taking the time to explain in case some people don't understand the implications while using these "free" services/applications.

Cheers.
