Igo8

Hey guys, I installed iGo8 on my touch pro 2 on an SD Card. When I go to file explorer and open iGo8.exe from its folder it opens no problem. I tried to create a shortcut by copying iGo8.exe and putting it in Windows\Start Menu\Programs , no problems with that. When I try to open it from the programs list it comes up with error "Program application database cannot be found. Please insert original SD Card" Just wondering what I'm doing wrong here. Thanks.

Go to your iGo folder and open the file SYS.TXT. Make sure that under folders, it is pointing to the correct storage card name.

It should look something like this:

[folders]
app="\Storage Card\iGo8\"

OK, I have done this several times. What you need to do is copy and paste a SHORTCUT not just copy and paste. Only because when you just copy and paste it copys the actual exe and can't find the rest of the info it needs to start up. Hope this helps a lil

Copying an .exe is not a shortcut....I attached on below for you. Unzip and place it in your windows, start menu, programs folder.

I posted a question at PocketGPSWorld, but no reply yet -
is IGO8 available for Windows Mobile, with North American maps?

I will want to put a GPS software app on my new VZW TP2, and this is one possible option. Another is CoPilotLive8.

Any insight appreciated.

Thanks!

Where did you buy/download it? When I go to their official site, I find it for sale with European Maps, or an iPhone version with North American maps, but can't seem to find it for Windows Mobile with NA maps.

That's why I posted here, as people seemed to be using it, but it wasn't clear where they got the program and the maps.

How did you install Garmin on your TP2? And where did you get it from? I have a copy of Garmin for North America but have yet to install it.

I have TomTom currently installed but wanted to see if I liked Garmin better or not.

Thanks.

Re: Igo8

Is iGo one of the ones where you can download the program for free and then just have to purchase the maps? I saw that Garmin operated that way, when their website has the pocket pc download, but just wondering if I'm going to their correct website for the iGo and getting the North America maps. It seems everyone likes this one better than the others.

iGO8 is the European version of OnCourse Navigator.

OnCourse Navigator can be purchased here. http://www.buygpsnow.com/oncourse-navigator_64.aspx
Here is the OnCourse Navigator home page: http://www.oncoursenavigator.com/

I have no relation, it was the first that google popped up.

Some people use the term iGo8 because it was made available through "other" sources first and they installed it on their systems to see if they liked the software before making a purchase. I'm not agreeing nor disagreeing with this methodology, merely stating fact.

Depending on your google-fu you may be able to locate these alternative sources if you desire. But no, it isn't free.

I'm actually aware of everything "unspoken" you speak of, but I haven't seen anything outright labeled anywhere iGO for North America, besides the Amigo, which that's still in the air as well, and this is on company websites and "anywhere else" I may see these items...

Interesting. Had a look at the primary website for OCN, and found this:

"* Important! Please, be advised that the software runs only on the original SD memory card."

The biggest they have available is 8gb. I was planning on getting a 16gb microSDHC card for my TP2, and don't want to limit myself to 8gb. Certainly don't want to swap out cards for the sake of a GPS program.

Looks like a deal killer for me on this one...

To be clear, I have successfully run both iGo8 and Amigo on a Sprint Touch Pro 2 with NAVTEQ maps. If one were happy with that experience, one would purchase OnCourse Navigator. Same product bundled with North American maps.

You may need to edit the sys.txt file and add these two lines:

Code:

[device]
sdcard_dsk_num=7

After that, you should be able to start it from file explorer.

i've bought an in-dash 2din GPS and it's inclusive the IGO8 gps platform (in SD card). When I explore a file in the SD card using in-dash 2din GPS, it looks fine. When I trying to explore the file using PC, the windows pop up:
" G:\IGO8. refer to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location. "

I would like explore the file and change the route map to a google map. Please help me how can I explore the file. :-(
