What is the effect of a hard reset ?

Hi !

I just heard about "hard reset" since i got my first ppc.

I don't know that does change a hard reset...Is it like formating your hard drive ?

Does it detete all calendar, contact list, programs, e-mail accounts, ringtones...?

The most important concern for me are my contact list, with pictures and notes, etc... what is the most appropriate tool to fully export them (in case ther are deleted after a hard reset)

Thank you very much !!!!

Back up using PIMbackup before you hard reset. A hard reset wipes your phone of all installed programs contacts appt. etc...

Best way is simply sync w/ your computer or you can use programs such as PIMBackup.

Hard Reset's wipe your entire phone clean, and restore your phone back to manufacturer (or a custom rom's) default. You'll have nothing on a recently hard resetted phone- no contacts, calendar, etc. Any installed programs won't be there either

I would recommend using a program like PIMbackup and SPB Backup.

And yes, formatting your computer is a pretty good comparison, except it's more like restoring your computer to factory settings via a restore disk provided by the OEM.

About the only thing it doesn't affect is the things set up using the ## Codes, like MSID, etc.

yup, everything will be there- just like a brand new phone or what the person above me said- right "out of the box"

Had the TP2 the day it came out for sprint and hard reset 3 times already- all because of graphical problems because of installing customizations.

Otherwise..the reasons you hard reset is really limited to flashing to custom roms (which we don't have yet), problems like I had, or doing so can sometimes help you get the "speed" you had before (only if you didn't enhance to phone to even better stability). Sometimes installing and uninstalling programs leaves residue behind which hard resets become the easiest way to rid
