Verizon TP2 questions

Hi all,

I just purchased my TP2 online with Verizon, coming from the regular touch (XV6900). I haven't seen any posts, but wanted to see if the users had any feedback...

Has VZW unlocked the GPS, or do they still want you to purchase the VZ navigator? Not a huge deal, but I could start looking for unlocking threads if this is still an issue.

I also tried to browse the VZ site for information regarding the Mobile 6.5 upgrade but couldn't find anything. Anyone know some information as to when VZW will make it available to their costumers?

Looking forward to receiving the phone, will either be today or Monday...if I get it before receiving a response I'll upgrade my own thread and answer the questions I've asked as best I can.

Good luck, glad to be a new part of the community.

WRONG. VZ Navigator is unnecessary. What, are you from Verizon corporate or somthing!?! ;)

Yes and yes. They still want you to use VZ Navigator, and put it right up front in the programs, for those who can't figure out how to activate/configure the GPS. But the GPS is unlocked. Just run "Quick GPS" to activate and set up. GPS should then work in other applications without further tweeking (I have tried it in Google Maps, Live Search, GPS Weather Radar).

No info yet. I too am watching closely.

Ditto to what msh441 said. I got the Touch Pro 2 from Verizon and ran Quick GPS. That's all I had to do and it worked in Google Maps without an issue. It's safe to assume it will work in other apps as well.

You can also go to Settings>Phone>CDMA Services>Location Settings and set it to "On" and that would enable full GPS as well.

I too should be receiving my TP2 by Monday at 3pm ;P For those of you that say all you have to do is do is run Quick GPS and change the location settings to on. Does the aGPS work then? Do you get a lock within seconds? or does it take a minute or two? I know I had to do registry settings in my 6900 like changing server it would connect to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My VZW TP2 gets GPS sat locks in like 3-5 seconds. Fastest locks on any phone that I've had! I didn't do anything to set up aGPS or change any registry setting. IT JUST WORKS! Which is big for me because I drive a truck to customers homes for work & I've come to depend on GPS.

Re: Verizon TP2 questions

^^What do you use for GPS/Maps. GoogleMaps gets a lock really fast, but Bing/Live Search seems to take twice as much time or longer to get GPS fix, and it usually isn't as accurate.

Duradil,
I to upgraded from the 6900 to the TP2. Let me be the first to tell you that you are not going to be disappointed with your decision. Actually, you are going to feel like running around the room when you discover all the new, cool things you can do. I don't know if you text a lot, but I would recommend that you find the verizon version of the message notification killer as soon as possible. Other than that, have fun and enjoy.. You are going to feel like a kid in a candy store.
