Web Browsing - Not impressed

Hi,

I was recently given an HTC TP2 (VodafoneUK) by my employer and I dont know whether my expectations were unrealistic or not but some aspects of this device leave me somewhat bemused.
As a standalone device e.g apps, games its very good albeit I think a little slow.
It the web experience I am totally underwhelmed by.
I mostly use Pre-n Wi-Fi in conjunction with 20MB cable internet so was expecting pretty good responses. Things like youtube, facebook etc work pretty well as does mplayer/iplayer, ftp client and file downloads. However browsing is a nightmare. I have tried a number of browsers; The built-in opera 9.5, Oper mini5b, Opera 9.7b, skyfire and IE, all of which are dreadful, othe than in reduced mobile view. I really dont understand why this should be the case. Is there a lot of processing going to render web pages to the smaller screen or something?
Any advice to improve this aspect of the device would be very much appreciated

thx

i was going to say that either it's him ( extraordinarily high expectations) or his phone because im really happy with the speed of my browsers ( i jump between skyfire and opera).

Its not as fast or as great as my desktop at home with premier high speed cable and my 65" DLP as a monitor..........but its the fastest handheld I have ever used. Its almost as fast as my laptop when using wireless.

You have to try Opera Mini 4.2. Best browser out there.

I agree with this one. But I still use all the browsers you do and am pleased with the results. You won't ever get the same browsing experience such as speed from a cell phone, no matter how advanced, as a desktop. it's just not possible.

I'm using 4.2 (posting this in 4.2 as well) and love it. I have never liked Opera Mobile myself so, I feel you there. I have 4.2 auto rotate and the cab I use gives an Icon in programs and never asks permissions. Its faster than Safari on my wifes Iphone....

Not trying to hi-jack but, can anyone tell me why my pro2 is defaulting to "wireless" versions of some pages while my pro shows full desktop views. (yes i have my mobile view unchecked).

ok i installed opera mini 4.2 and it has transformed my experience... much happier now. How do you get rid of the "airtime" prompt that displays every time you open and navigate to a page?

thnx .... sent via opera mini :) :)

PS is there a tab key hidden on the kbd?

After reading the last post, I'll try 4.2. But, I'm with the OP on this one. And I think it has to be something with rendering. If I want to download a cab or file, the phone is blazing fast. So I don't think its the connection. But browing is just plain slow. Even if its the fastest browsing on any winmo phone ever, it is still sloooowww. Again, the part that is odd is downloading files is fast, browsing is slow. So maybe it is something to do with the 2d excel... Not hating here, but telling the honest truth. This is the best phone I have ever had....
