Windows Wont Recognize Device
 

Greetings,

I have a laptop with vista home installed. I loaded the verizon software and plugged in my new htc pro2 and windows will not recognize it.

When I open windows mobile device center it says "not connected".

When I go to syn center it doesn't recognize it either.

As far as I can tell, the device loaded drivers when I plugged it in.

Please help, I want to load up a bunch of software but am stuck at this first step.

Is it possible that you plugged your phone into the usb before loading the verizon disc? This has screwed me up in the past.

Extremely possible.

How would I fix that problem?

I tried to locate the device under device management to uninstall it, but I cant recognize it from the cryptic names there.

With Vista or 7 and an active internet connection. The drivers should be found and installed automatically. You shouldn't really need the verizon disc at all (I didn't). Also try a different USB port.

I also hooked the phone up before installing the drivers on the Verizon disc. I was able to skip re-installing Windows mobile device center by going to Settings>All Settings>Connections>USB to PC> and unchecking "Enable Faster Data Sync" on the phone. After that it worked for me. Might be worth a shot.

This is a windows vista pc, so it does not use activesync.

where do I find "Settings>All Settings>Connections>USB to PC>"

Is this in windows mobile device or on the phone itself? I don't see anywhere in windows mobile device that says "all setings"

I tried 3 different usb pors, turning both computer and device on and off. No luck.

It should still be the same process. Uninstall the verizon software, then delete the device driver.

Not working.

I cant find the device driver under usb devices. It is simply not listed.

Should I have "disk drive (faster file transfer)" checked if i am using vista?

And does not having a memory card inserted make a difference?

I have Windows 7 installed on my pc and my TP2 is not recognized by windows when I plug it on Activesync mode.

It does work when I plug it on drive mode though...

When i put a micro sd card, it recognizes the device as a mass storage, but thats it. I still cant get windows mobile device center to recognize it.

Can anyone out there help me?!?
