To have TEP or not have TEP
Well i had the touch pro and never even knew i did not have tep for about the whole life of the phone.I really thought i had it but somehow it got taken off.Well i had problems with it and each time i called in and when tech support got on the phone i would always tell them it was the phone and not me.
Well after 3 of them i had to take it to a local sprint store and when they seen it was bad and not me they replaced it.So my question is since i never lose my phone is it worth having TEP? I heard now you pay 7$ a month and if you have to go threw insureion it is like 100$ if it is your fault. Anyway is eveveyone here on TEP? or like me saving the 7$ a month and keeping the phone in good shape thoughts? |
Re: To have TEP or not have TEP
I baby my phone like it's a newborn buttttttt I still have TEP. Just in case something CRAZY happens, I totally think it's worth it.

Re: To have TEP or not have TEP
7$ a month plus 100$ if i lose it.If the phone goes bad because of them they still replace it free for a year so it is just like having tep if the phone goes bad in 5 months and not because of me they still replace it.

Re: To have TEP or not have TEP
TEP is almost a prereq for high end devices... why take the risk.. 84 bucks a yr is pretty cheap for piece of mind...
thats why their called accidents... noone, well i hope noone, drops their phone on purpose... their not intentionally shattering the screen or getting it water damaged.... ive had TEP for the enitre 9 yrs ive had sprint... i dont think i ever even replaced a phone b4 the mogul, maybe 1 or 2 that the cops took but thats it... i say Yes, its only 7 a month extra, and then u just know that no matter what happens 100bucks(which u can get sprint or asurion to pay 90% of the time) and its taken care of |

Re: To have TEP or not have TEP
Well 7$ a month is 7$ to me LOL when if the phone bad i call sprint and they replace it.I do not like to take advantage of them but 1 time i had a touch pro that was my 3rd one.Well it got so bad that i threw it.Well when the return package came i still put it in there and guess what they never charged me they must have thought it got like that during shipping.
Owell maybe ill break down and put it on there once my 30 days are up :) |
Re: To have TEP or not have TEP
I have never had insurance on a phone and never needed it. The one time I would have used it Verizon replaced it for me. Sure we all try to baby these things, just put it in a pocket by itself, watch after it, be smart. I'm not saying others with some horror stories didn't, just that I've had a WM phone since 2000, palm before that, and my HP Palmtop WinCE1.0 before that, all still working to date. Install SmartPhoneTracker, look out for the thing, and you'll save yourself somenice money every year.
After all, by the time a year passes (manu warranty expires/vzw doesn't want to help you out) the device will be $150. You'd rather do through $8 a month + $90 deductable? Do the math, it doesn't make sense. So now there's my $.02, let the flaming begin! |
Re: To have TEP or not have TEP
I do Agree if you make it for 6 months or more you can go on ebay and get a good used 1 for200$ and heck if you do not lose it you can still sell them on ebay.I see people pay 75$ for phones that do not work for parts.
Also sprint will give you 50$ for it down the road towards a trade in if it works or not. |
Re: To have TEP or not have TEP
I have the $4 ESRP on my line since the phone will be out of standard warranty in a month. Haven't had the need for TEP, so I save myself $3 a month.

Re: To have TEP or not have TEP
well to me i got enough bills that just protect me LOL but 7$ a month might not seem like a lot but hey with that 7$ times 12 months that is 94$.

Re: To have TEP or not have TEP
The only thing I don't like about TEP is that they send out refurbished devices. I baby my phone too, and it never gets any scratches on it. However I've had to use TEP a few times and I've received replacements that have had scratches on the screen and I had to call them back to get them to send out another one. If you do this 2 times, the 3rd time they will finally send you a new one.

Re: To have TEP or not have TEP
I have TEP and my keyboard on my touch pro stopped working. Took it to a sprint store and they ordered me a new TP on saturday and it got there today. Free of charge....I think its worth it, especially after dropping my motoq in the pool a couple years ago and having to pay full price for the mogul...ughh

Re: To have TEP or not have TEP
1st off I'm going to say that I work at a Sprint store and I do pay for the insurance on my TP2. Yes it is a $100 deductible to Asurion because of the type of phone you have. Just to let you know that most people dont know and what we dont really bring up is you have a 1 year warranty that we will cover through a repair center long as there is not water damage, physcial damage (scratches are ok), or lost or stolen, which we just started in April. Which by the way is the only reason you would have to spend the $100 deductible if one of these situations happened. Hope I helped. :)

Re: To have TEP or not have TEP
I have used my insurance on 2 devices (mogul twice, touch once). Although I've never had to use it on the Touch Pro 1, I still think that it's worth it. These devices are getting more and more expensive, and $7/mo is nothing compared to $600 for a new phone.

Re: To have TEP or not have TEP
I've carried TEP on my Diamond for the entire year I owned it and didn't use it. I continue to carry TEP on the TP2 since it will cost me $599 to replace it through Sprint and I already paid a ton of money for it. In 8 months to a year when the cost of the phone comes down to $100-150 then I might drop TEP.
My 2.5 cents... |
Re: To have TEP or not have TEP
I baby my phone too, but I still have it for that chance. I dont want to pay out $490 because I drop it and bust it or lose it.

Yup and what happends is if they can't fix it they give you a new one well yes a refurb but same thing you get from insureon.I had a pro and they changed it out but as you said it is if there is no water damage. So what the tep gives you is if you get water damage or lose it then you can get another one but the 100$ plus the 7$ if you think about it you will be able to get refurbs off ebay for about 250$ to 275$ once this phoine has been out awhile and if you did not lose the phone they sell like i said in another post for 50$ or more on ebay even not working. So really if you make it past 3 months you are not saving a lot when by that time you would have paid 21$ and then 100$ so 121$ if you lose it and by then this phone will be 250$ on ebay for a refurb. |

If you're going to keep a phone more than a year, and you're a careful person, just put ESRP before the standard warranty expires. |
Re: To have TEP or not have TEP
I get a new phone every year so I think I am going to skip insurance from now on. Sprint covers the warranty so it doesn't make sense anymore. With a 1 year warranty you should be good. With the deductible going up to a $100.00, it's just not worth it at this point
