Randomly turns itself on...
 

I know this is common on older WinMo devices, and it appears to continue with the TP2! My god, with all the tuning and tweaking between HTC and MS you'd think they would have fixed this! Every time I pull the TP2 from my pocket, I discover that it's been on and it's been bouncing around from screen to screen...

Is there a fix available to keep this from happening? If not, does anyone know of a simple locking application similar to the iPhone's???

Make sure there is no magnet near the bottom of the phone like in the leather holsters with the magnetic flip lid......it will turn the phone on.

i just use the normal hardpress lock.....

maybe ya phone is coming partially opened while its in ya pocket causing it to turn on... maybe reg edit that bad boy to not autowakeup when keyboard opens... that might help ya

Yeah, how do you stop that.
When at my parents house my phone battles between sprint and roaming every 30 seconds. Phone is always turning itself on. Is there a way to prevent this?

This is a strange Sprint/HTC quirk, my HTC Touch, HTC Touch Diamond, and HTC Touch Pro all did this for no apparent reason. It used to drive me nuts on my first phone, I thought it was defective. I quickly realized it's typical of HTC devices on Sprint.

Yeah, and I have the forced roaming mod too. I want to disable the fact that it turns on the backlight when switching from sprint to roam......there has to be a way to disable that wakeup feature.

Not sure if it's better on this particular phone, but with other WM/HTC devices it turns on because of


Bluetooth
Email Sync
Opera Sync
Weather Sync
(Really any automated sync)
Phone Call duh
Low Battery (This I love.... battery is low so let's light up the screen and play a sound, then stay on in my pocket - a proven way to extend the battery!)

There's some others I can't think of now, feel free to add to the list.

This hapens to me as well, mostly when flipping in an out of roaming and randomly while driving. I can force the screen to stay off with the application mentioned earlier but this does seem like an unnecessary step. What I would really like is a mod that will keep the screen off when the phone is facing down, like on a desk. The phone has all the hw required (e.g. speakerphone when phone is active and fac down) - is there a setting somewhere i am missing?

Roaming notwithstanding, what most people are seeing is when the phone switches between 1xRTT and EVDO. When the signal to noise ratio drops to a threashold on EVDO, the phone will switch to 1xRTT. This causes the screen to light up. You might notice that in strong EVDO areas, you don't have this problem. I have seen this, as others have wrote, with most/all HTC devices.

I have an Airave and every time I enter my house it will turn on.

I have the same issue too,I also found out that if I stand under a traffic light,my phone screen would turn on when the traffic light chnaged from red to green or whatever,I take train to work everyday,phone screen also turned on just right before the train arrive to the station,this happened 99.9% of the time,if I put my phone in airplane mode,then I never have this problem.My wife has a Samsung flip phone,the above did not happen on her phone even though she just stands next to me.

Now that's just crazy. Cool, but crazy. Must be a radio signal similar to the ones Ambulances, etc use to make a light green as they approach a traffic signal?
