"align screen" keeps poping up
 

I don't know why but I keep having my algin screen thing pop up randomly when I take it out of my case or pocket.

What buttons bring this thing up?

Wow, that just doesn't sound right. I don't recall ever reading about a key combination to get to the screen alignment. I'm guessing you've tried a soft reset. Did this start happening after you installed something perhaps? Worst case...hard reset to see if it is a software versus hardware issue...but see what others might offer up first I guess.

EDIT: Well I stand corrected because after googling the issue I saw some reports over at XDA of certain users having this problem when they pressed certain hard key combos...I think it was the Messaging key and one of the directional dpad keys. They were also using game emulators, so not sure if that added to the problem. Doesn't help you I know. I also read that it could be a defective keyboard issue!

I have had this happen several times while removing my TP2 from the case and it is real annoying as you can't do anything with the phone until you perform the screen alignment. I had it happen once while trying to answer the phone. and it wouldn't answer even when I pushed the green button. I ended up doing the alignment and then checking my missed calls to find out who to call back.

And actually I have never had it happen any other time so the keyboard has nothing to do with it as it was closed. ](*,)

i am having this happen almost everyday. not sure how its initiating, but no matter how many times i go through align screen process it will not go back to windows. it just goes through align screen process over and over until i do a soft reset.

I've also had it happen while in a call... I had the notes application up and tapped a number in on the soft keyboard, then put it back to my ear, and when the call was done I had align screen up. Was very annoying!

I've had it happen 4 times in the 3 weeks I've had the phone. I put it in the case locked and in sleep mode, and when I pulled it out of the case it is displaying the "align screen". Once it occurred when I was answering a call, the other times just removing the phone from the case.

BTW, I have a velcro closure on my case, not a magnet.

I too would like to know what is causing it so I can stop it from happening. It is REAL anoying.

i sent the question to HTC customer service asking which buttons turn on the align screen. i am 99.9% sure they're going to tell me "we don't know.", but it doesn't cost me anything to ask. :)

Happened once or twice to me too, magnetic case for the last week, when I think it happened. I just assumed it was Satan.

Ws messin around with a buddies blackberry case, seeing if it would fit, messing around with the magnet in the case too. Alignment screen came up and I just did a reset.

I would throw my phone through a wall if it did that. DONT DO THAT !
Wow. Do you have any applications installed. If so I'd say uninstall them one by one and see if the problem goes away. If that fails then hard reset and install apps slowly like each day a new one. It seems that it's not linked directly to magnets but cases which is really weird.

I tested one of our Touch Pro2's, the Sprint one to be more specific, and found that there is not a harware combination to enter the align screen menu. It can only be accessed by going through the settings menu> tapping all settings> tapping display> then tapping align screen. If you have any third party applications installed on the device, you may want to consider removing them from the device as they may be affecting the performance of the phone. To remove an application from your device, you would go to: Settings> All Settings> Remove Programs> Select the programs that you installed and tap Remove. Once you have finished, Tap OK and then power cycle the phone (power it off then back on). In the case that the above does not resolve the issue, you may want to consider performing a factory reset of the device. Note: Performing a hard reset will delete all of your personal data and reset it to the factory settings. Please backup any wanted data to a PC using Microsoft ActiveSync for Windows XP or Windows Mobile Device Center for Windows Vista. To perform a hard reset, go to: Settings> All Settings> System Tab> Clear Storage. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the reset. Allow the device a few minutes to clear the storage and the phone should function normally now.

I have already done a hard reset, so I am certain that's not the problem.

I have had my Sprint HTC TP2 for about 10 days (and less than 10 calls). It has locked up with the align screen about 5 times. For me, I get the lock up while placing a call and trying to increase the volume while I put the phone to my ear as it starts to ring. I sent HTC an email today describing the scenario.

This happened once last week, my sister was using my phone when she hung up that align screen appeared. I could not get out of that screen even when I preformed the align test over and over again.

A soft reset go rid of the align test screen. It hasn't happened again since that time.

+1 here...I have had it happen 3 or 4 times. I use magnet case and most times it has happened when pulling it out or during/after a call.

Weird stuff. No issue with mine yet. 4 week old verizon.
I've never even been prompted to align screen ever, even after a HR.
First time a wm device didn't require that afaik.

There has to be an answer to this. Mine did it several times last week. I don't use a case I keep it in my front pocket. And... unlike Ronnie... I actually figured it was an issue related to the last program I had installed which was pocket shield. I loved the program but I felt (again... I felt) it was buggy, so I uninstalled it. No more screen align issues.
I too think it's the devil. Too close to halloween for it not to be.
lol.

The issue is because of the volume buttons being depressed and accidentally touching the screen. See my post above.

I had the EXACT same issue and solved it by placing the phone in the case in a position where the buttons were never in danger of being shoved into the sides accidentally.

In your front pocket is PRIME candidate for the align screen showing up even more frequently than my case.

You're confusing me bro... towards the top of your post the HTC rep states... Then you say that the combination of volume buttons and screen touching may be causing this but... I wear slacks, and there's nothing else in my pocket to press the volume buttons. Also I would think a case would be more likely to press the volume buttons unless there is a case that has some sort of cutout for the buttons.
Also as I mentioned... I uninstalled pocket shield and the problem went away. I just thought it was strange that another member of this post had the problem resolve by installing pocket shield.

Hence my confusion. This is not an argument. I am just confused by your reply. :scratch:
