Any way to "turn on" speaker phone while not in a call?

I'm trying to get the phone to play louder while driving so I can listen to the streaming music. Problem is the max volume is too quite still and I've applied the patch to up volume. It works but towards the high end it seems to distort the sound, like the speakers are being forced (well it's true if I worded it right)

So im wondering is it possible to get sound to play out the speaker phone like it does in calls? Since the speakerphone as good quality sound and volume, it's a shame I cant get it to work on other things...

Uh...if it's coming through the speakers and not the earpiece then that's all you're gonna get.

I suggest you get an FM transmitter and hook it to the headphone jack on your tp2 and then you can play whatever you want to play through your car stereo or any amplified set of speakers. ;)

as horndoctor said , the speakerphone just uses the external speakers found on the back of the phone , so when you are playing music , it is using the same speakers . I dont notice and distortion (speakers getting too much power) as you say you are getting , i almost want it louder yet . too be honest , you just might have crappy speakers ? how old is the device ? and mind you that during a phone call the call quality is MUCH lower than streaming music . horndoctor has the best fix for ya , buy a FM transmitter . i might get one just to listen to it through the car speakers .

ugh... that might be a good idea lol, I'll look into seeing if I can find a cheapish one :S I don't use it all that often, just driving back from work at midnight I need something to keep me awake lol

How do fm transmitters work? I mean do I need to install something into car stereo? Or do I plug it into phone and it converts it into fm signals that stereo can pick up? I ask because I don't know if I want the car next to be to pick up my phone calls lol

well , many of them (especially if you are going the cheap route) only have like 1 to 2 feet of range . so i doubt the car next to you will pick up your signal , not to mention they would have to be on the same frequency you are on whitch is highly impossible for them to know . unless you pick one that someone else is on just by chance .

and yes you simply plug it in and it converts the signal to FM . check ebay they should be somewhat cheap , i saw one at AutoZOne for like 25 bucks . but it included the cassette tape and all the other crap i dont want . lol .

Just remember, the cheaper the FM transmitter the lower the quiality of the sound the radio will pickup. I had that problem.
So with that in mind "You get what you pay for"!

Re: Any way to "turn on" speaker phone while not in a call?

And to add to the "get what you pay for" angle...pick one up locally & test it out. If it works well, great; if not, you can return it & try a different model/brand.

The cheaper ones really suck for the most part. You'll get hisses, etc., and you'll go crazy. Also, beware that when you're charging your phone while connected to an FM transmitter, there's a decent chance you'll pick up & transmit noise too. I haven't found a transmitter that didn't do this. :-/

hm, I'll wait until I read up on some then, maybe by end of month I'll pick one out.

You think Walmart would have them, or which local stores are likely too, in US

I think they do , if not I do remember seeing them at radioshack , however it was more than I was willing to pay . I found a promising one from china that is like 1 dollar , then found the same thing in new york for 3 dollars . from the reviews people like it , I like it because not only can you use the cigarette lighter to power the transmitter , but 2 aaa batteries will also power it .

Re: Any way to "turn on" speaker phone while not in a call?

what's it called? I mean the name for the product, not just fm transmitter is it?

I don't mind paying a bit more... I've dealt with ordering from chinese sites before, I got my car mount/charger for TP2 for $5 from one of them but it took almost a month to get here... I'd rather spend a few more dollars than wait that long if possible. Unless the savings are a lot, I can buy "locally" lol

Re: Any way to "turn on" speaker phone while not in a call?

hm yeah i bought a fm transmitter sometime in december and have been using it for a month now

I've noticed that the phone doesn't recognize the usb when I plug it into the fm transmitter. Wondering if I could get some help on this. The 3.5mm jack works and I've been using that, but the usb cable when linked to fm transmitter makes it think it is connected to a computer (I get the active sync prompt) instead of the headphones function for usb.

Re: Any way to "turn on" speaker phone while not in a call?

Hmm that's weird, what brand is the FM transmitter? I had a belkin model (that was $55 at Kmart) back in 2006 which was really good that it could even overwrite full power radio stations (sure freaked my gma out when she started hearing profanity on her Christian radio station). As for the problem I don't know exactly what to tell u other than replacing the actual USB cable and see if the issue persists.

Re: Any way to "turn on" speaker phone while not in a call?

well it was a rather cheap fm transmitter i suppose, $10 if your's costed $55
but the sound from 3.5mm jack sounds clear so it's good, just wanted to charge it at same time with 1 wire, instead of 2 wires for charging and sound

thats the transmitter not your phone .... the transmitter ( from what ive read ) isnt a headphone route , its more like a sync route . the transmitter "sees" whats being played and transmits it . its hard to explain . its more of a data port then an actuall audio port , i get the same results when plugging my phone into my souround sound system using the USB port

@eyeb what brand is it? It might be the same one given the time period. Maybe its price dropped. Needless to say I returned it right after I was done with it. (only needed it for a college trip for one of the clubs I was in).

i actually called RCA about it and they said its because its not an iPod -.- and that it actually plays the files from it . for instance , the iPod acts as a flash drive but because of the way the iPod is set up it plays the music . it pretty much comes down to it wasnt designed for WinMO xP

Re: Any way to "turn on" speaker phone while not in a call?

hm i really dont know the brand... it doesn't say anything on it... shows how cheap it was :D but in this case, cheap is good enough for me, the sound is crystal clear (or at least same as other radio stations), now if only slacker would fix it's bug of dropping connection after a song or 2 lol

I just wanted 1 cord to play and charge instead of 2... thought there might be a hack or something for this :S

edit: one odd piece of thing I did see was the car radio seems to use the phone as an antenna lol, opposite of how the phone needs ear piece as antenna. But I can turn the radio to a station that I normally don't get or isn't clear, plug in the phone to the fm transmitter set to that station, and it becomes clearer or I pick up something where as I didn't before. Of course the phone is off during this so I know the sound isn't coming from phone streaming something...

Thats wicked ! lol who knows whats going on with the radio waves ! btw where did you buy your transmitter how much was it ? i got mine from ebay and paid like 3 bucks for it . it doesnt sound stereo but then again it might just be my 1986 radio in my Chrysler lebaron xP

EDIT: and does slacker drop with the screen on or off ? i noticd the standby on my phone cut the connection . also believe it or not , it might be sprints horrible data connection . cause when playing with wifi i had absolutly no problems what so ever .

Re: Any way to "turn on" speaker phone while not in a call?

i get slacker problem with screen off, it drops on wifi too so i dont think it's sprint...

Since I can stream other things without problems. I just don't want to leave screen on for battery

I also use the reg fix for keep music playing with screen off (if you were going to suggest it :S)

I bought it for about $10... yeah it's more than your $3 but I didn't want to wait for it lol, and $10 is still worth it for me since it has a remote/plays from usb and sd cards too. The remote is point less, it doesn't work unless you are almost touching it, in that point i just reach fingers out and press it lol

Wow im wishing i woulda gotten one like yours . and about the slacker , i think i remember having exact problems like that when turning off the screen , it has something to do with the sleep policy , i remember writing a script for myself that when Slacker or pandora were active and running , the power button "Toggled" the screen off which kept the device's data running and the wifi . for some reason the slacker app doesnt do that .

EyeB 01-20-2012 01:23 PM

Re: Any way to "turn on" speaker phone while not in a call?

hm if it is just the sleep issue, i have a screen off app that i can use. I just thought it was something else lol, thanks I'll try using just screen off tonight on drive home from work

eric12341 01-20-2012 06:32 PM

Re: Any way to "turn on" speaker phone while not in a call?

I don't think that issue will ever be fixed in the WM slacker app unfortunately.

the noise or signal interference is comming from the cheaply engineered charger. I have a few usb chargers that cause havoc with my stations, so I try to swap my good one between cars.. also can be fixed by running the radio or 12v port off a ground loop isolator

as for the charge and sound via 1 cord, look for a mogul or tp1 ext-usb adaptor. ;)

hm didn't realize that noise was what you guys meant... but yeah i suppose it's a known issue then, at least it goes away if i switch stations :D

do you mean this adaptor?
http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Charger-Ad.../dp/B001IYQ8C6

or this one?

I got this one, and i tried it, it didn't work
