Faster Texting on TP2
 

Hey everyone,

I sadly still have my TP2 for various reasons and I'm trying to make the best of it.

I pretty much use my phone for the basics: making calls, texting a ridiculous amount, and using the web with the occasional use of the GPS. Is there something that could speed up the texting on my phone? When I get a lot of texts stored in my phone, I have to start deleting them and even that takes forever. When I have a lot of texts stored in my phone, the messaging starts to get really laggy and unbearable so I have to start deleting the 2,000+ messages but that takes about a day to fully delete (I have to turn the backlight on and leave it on just so the phone doesn't go into sleep mode and not want to turn back on again because of the overload.)

I have never flashed my phone to a different ROM, but is there a certain ROM that someone recommends I use that would allow me to have over 2,000 texts in my phone without having to spend an entire day deleting them all? Pretty much a ROM dedicated to texting...

Also, if I go to a Sprint store for a repair, will they still work on it even if it is with a flashed ROM or will I have to re-flash it to the stock Sprint ROM?

It's a shame that the TP2 has such a great keyboard but is not a good texting phone. I have had a little success with speed if the messaging is not threaded, but I like the threaded format better.

YOu can try Vito's SMS chat . I like it overall , but ever since I got a 29020 build I've been using the WM version of texting . Vito was exceptionally fast and very smooth . Id try that .

u can try a 6.1 rom, no lag whatsoever with texting. don't know why it was such a problem in the 218xx and 235xx builds of 6.5 but it was fixed a little bit in the 219xx and 290xx builds

Thanks for the great responses! I just installed Vito SMS chat and it's working great but I don't know if I'm going to be sticking with this for the long haul--I like the look and feel of the stock texting.

Eric, is there a specific 6.1 ROM that you recommend? Is there any downside to switching from 6.5 to 6.1?

no downside u'll just lose some eye candy and finger friendliness but ull gain performance.

I don't see it at all in the 29020 build . saw it a hell of a lot in wm 6.5 . ugh . but I believe vito nailed it despite the lack of mms support . plus I wish I could edit the lock screen to unlock to the SMS thread which has the unread message in it . I was able to make vito the default SMS client . but I hate how it doesn't support mms . I loved the new HTC messaging client , but that lags as well after about 50 texts per thread .

blackout rom had a version of HTC messaging that didn't lag. it was fantastic! too bad I couldn't stay on that rom due to other annoyances I found with it. in the rom I recommended HTC messaging doesn't lag but the messages get out of order after awhile.

Thanks, I'm gonna try out this ROM, but when I go to try and download it, it tells me I need to log in to ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com and I have no idea what to put.

Also, will I need the Kitchen file as well? Sorry, I am new to the whole flashing ROMS thing.

no u do not need to use the kitchen unless u want to edit that rom to put ur own spin on it.
