need help, data toggles off after inactivity
Not sure what's going on but my data connection seems to toggle off after some time, maybe inactivity?
horndoctor suggested using shaggy's suspendresume cab as a fix but it doesn't seem to work. Anyways the problem occurs when I reboot phone, or just when I have it powered off (not turned off) and later on when I'm using it, I find the data is turned off. I also notice this problem when listening to pandora/slacker (just anything with constant streaming) but after a couple minutes (1-5 minutes) of constant streaming the data would toggle off. I've also noticed that when the data is off, I get the roaming icon and I can still surf the web which confuses me because if data is off I shouldn't be able to use data but I can. Not sure if this is part or problem or something separate but I'm mentioning it. So if anyone else has this problem/know of a fix, I could use some help with this :D thanks in advance for the help. |

Well wait, data does toggle off after a period of time because it's supposed to. The key is, does it reconnect for you when you need it again? When the roaming icon comes on and you can still use data that is working correctly unless you make changes to certain things so you can't roam. You probably have spotty signal where you are so that's why it switches to roam. When you are streaming with Slacker does your music stop playing suddenly? |
Re: need help, data toggles off after inactivity
well the music stops after the song and it doesn't go to next song until after I turn on screen again (this is when I notice data is toggled off) so when I turn data back on, the next song continues
hm... I didn't know that it was suppose to turn off when I power off... :D but still not sure why I "roam" when the data is off... I mean I want it to roam when data is on, but why does roaming ignore if data is on/off? edit: the data doesn't really turn back on by itself... its more like the data switch stays toggled off but I get data from roaming. So I have to manually turn the data toggle back to on also seems to toggle data off when I connect it to computer to move files to phone :S I dont know if all these "bugs" are "features" but i would kind of like the phone to have data toggle stay on unless I toggle it off myself and not have phone decide when I shouldn't have data... |
Re: need help, data toggles off after inactivity
like horndoctor says . your signal may be spotty . use this attached cab to force home only . I noticed the same problem when my phone would go into roaming . I think when the phone goes into roaming it shuts off the radio then turns it back on . so try the cab I attached and get back to us ! :D

Also, your issue with Slacker may simply be due to your phone going to sleep causing an interruption. You could try temporarily changing the power settings to keep your device awake and see if the music keeps going. Then to make things more convenient you could use a mortscript to toggle regular power saving settings on or off depending on your needs. |
Re: need help, data toggles off after inactivity
the slacker radio app for WM has been having issues lately where it would simply cut off after a song or a commercial break so that may be ur issue too.

Re: need help, data toggles off after inactivity
hehe thanks all for the suggestions, I'm at work so can't play with phone right now. I'll download the cab when I'm home.
And what do you mean mortscripts? I've seen this mentioned before and so far I've gotten by without using them but maybe it's time to learn about them. Didn't know about the slacker thing. I don't think it is the phone going to sleep, I've had this problem even when I've turned off the sleep setting |
Re: need help, data toggles off after inactivity

Re: need help, data toggles off after inactivity
i searched the site for the cab and found it on a couple posts. Saw one version was about 482kb and another is 405kb but both did not work.
I've installed it several times and different cabs too and all dont work. I think it might be the .net but so far nothing else has problems with it. I ran across additional .net files before like .net_en_message cab but i lost that a while back and didn't install it on the tp2. Could it be needing those files? |

Re: need help, data toggles off after inactivity
here try this cab . Its the .netCF package from my ROM . It seems to me like you dont have .NET Compact Framework 3.5 installed . this should install it for you . i also know there were problems with some ROM's where people had the new NET CF but their device was still using the old one .. i'll dig around to find out more about that . but in the mean time try this cab.

Re: need help, data toggles off after inactivity
it works now but i'm not sure why lol
your version of .net was newer than mine but it didnt work I uninstalled yours, reinstalled mine, still didnt work, repeated installing/uninstalling and the switchroam somehow in the middle of this started working using the .net I was using (not yours) I did notice that your's is about 6mb and mine is 2mb... not sure why there is such big size difference though |

But if it does same thing as setting roaming to sprint only, I've notice it still disconnects once in a while but not as often. Mostly when I connect it to computer by usb, seems to turn off data for some reason. And sometimes I see it off after I wake up. But it's odd because even though it's off I can still get data its just slow edit: ok... so this is kind of strange, I just tested turning off the data, going to weather tab and it automatically turns the data on to download. I'm not sure if this is a feature, but can't the data just stay on till I turn it off, and vice vera? I mean what if I turned off data to conserve data (I'm not since I got unlimited but still) and I find out that it doesn't matter because phone just does what it wants and keeps using data. And using airplane mode isn't an option since I still want to make/recieve calls. I mean I know this sounds like I'm wanting opposite of my initial problem of it disconnecting but I just want the data to stay the way I set it and not switch back and forth without me doing anything :( lol |

Well, if you turn off or switch all functions that connect for data like weather, QuickGPS, and email to manual then your device won't reconnect like that. I suggested what I suggested to try to diagnose if your device was functioning normally. It sounds like it is. If you have unlimited data I would not worry about it as much as you are. Your initial problem with Slacker may have just been specific to that app. |
Re: need help, data toggles off after inactivity
yep it sounds like it was just slacker lol. I'm just disappointed that the data toggles on by itself now lol. guess this thread can be closed :D
thanks for the help elesbb and horn |
