HTC Touch Pro 2 Phantom text - verizon

Having a problem getting my text count to read 0 when all are read. Have read about the Fix Unread Count file but seems complicated and does it really work. Just looking for some further recommendations as it appears this problem is common and many just live with it. My phantom count has been 2 for a while now.
