Got a "new" replacement TP2 from Sprint, but it seems used?

I just got a "new" replacement Tp2 from Sprint. It arrived in the retail package, however it didn't seem right from my previous experience of new phones.

1. Battery is unwrapped
2. There are tons of dust particles on the screen protector which seems like it has been removed before and got very dusty.
3. Once powered up, it did not ask me to do the touch screen alignment etc, but directly boot into WM OS.
4. There is a strange number 000-000-677 associated with the voicemail when I clicked on the dialer.
5. ##778# shows that it's produced in 02/10, and never gone through refurb process. The life time counter is 0 with timer of 0, so no one has used it to do a voice call before. But there has been data usage already (2mb in received and 2mb in transmitted).

Sprint CS argued that the 667 is a special number HTC used to program the phone and it does use small amount of data. But I do not recall my first Tp2 showing anything like that.

Is this a used phone judging from my observation? TIA.

I've never been able to actually confirm if a replacement is a refurb or a true new phone by checking codes on the phone, as many refurbs have been wiped clean w/ the OS reloaded. The only way I've been able to tell is a refurb doesn't come with a new batt, charger, etc. Is there a problem with the "new" phone or are you just upset because it doesn't appear to be BNIB? As long as the phone works as it should and doesn't have damage, screen slides tight and isn't floppy, etc, I wouldn't care what the phone was IMO. My TP2 when new was absolutely pristine FWIW but I wouldn't care if a replacement was BNIB or refurb, as long as it works perfect.

Wirelessly posted (WP7 Beta Tester: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows Phone OS 7.0; Trident/3.1; IEMobile/7.0; HTC; HD7))

If the life counter is 0, it's not a refurb.

It's used... From what you tell us... You may want to talk to someone at Sprint and see how far you can get with it... Or you may just want to go ahead and use it. If it looks new... And acts new... And it's new to you... Then it's new I guess.

I got lucky to have them send me a new phone instead of refurb after my replacement refurb unit gave me yet another rainbow smudge in less than 3 month. They specifically told me it would be a new phone, but when it came in it seemed no, although it came within the retail box and all the plastic wrapping material (sides of keyboard, back of the screen etc). I activated it already on my line, despite two clusters of bright pixels on screen, I haven't experienced anything abnormal yet.

Nowadays it's almost impossible to get a NIB replacement through customer service, last time I tried several times but still got refurb.

at this point in the tp2s life it will be very hard to get one that is totally new. that said with the manufactured date being in 2010 it is definitely not a true NIB model. however when I got my tp2 last may as a replacement for my tp. they sent a new model like they'd send a refurb but it was new since the manufactured date was 5/4/10 (I got it on 5/17/10).

I'm pretty sure they still have new tp2's floating around considering sprint still has them for sale. If its a refurb it'll say so when you were checking the info in ##778#. It'll have a line for "refurbishment status" and a line for "refurbishment date" if it has been refurb'd..

When I had problems with my phone, and wanted an exchange, I was told that only in the one month period I will get new phone, out of that time, I can only get refurb.

1. Battery is unwrapped - WIERD!

2. There are tons of dust particles on the screen protector which seems like it has been removed before and got very dusty. - WIERD!

3. Once powered up, it did not ask me to do the touch screen alignment etc, but directly boot into WM OS. - Normal Operation on TP2

4. There is a strange number 000-000-677 associated with the voicemail when I clicked on the dialer. - Normal Operation on TP2, just means the phone is not programmed yet.

Sprint CS argued that the 667 is a special number HTC used to program the phone and it does use small amount of data. But I do not recall my first Tp2 showing anything like that. Probably did but you were not looking at that becuase you KNEW it was a brand new phone.

Is this a used phone judging from my observation? TIA.

I think its new.
