After TP2 whats next?

Dont know if anyone has asked this already (well besides me but in a different way) Many are leaving their tp2's and upgrading to newer phones just wanted to do a poll on what OS people are going to since there isnt any newer WinMo phones

Is it
1) WP7
2) Android
3) iOS
4) Webos

Dr.8820 04-27-2011 05:45 PM

Wirelessly posted (WP7 Beta Tester: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows Phone OS 7.0; Trident/3.1; IEMobile/7.0; HTC; HD7))

It would be great if sprint got a really good wp7 phone to replace my HD7... I don't want anything to do with AT&T.

Re: After TP2 whats next?

Android for me...
I'm waiting for Microsoft to get their act together... I want a phone that can sync with my exchange hotmail account (contacts, calendar, and email of course including my yahoo and gmail accounts), to be able to read and edit microsoft office suite documents(documents to go or google docs now), to have a large capacitive screen, to be on Sprint, to have lots of apps available to it, expandable memory, to be able to use it as an external drive, have a good camera, slim form factor and great battery life...

My EVO does all that except for Battery life... After several tweaks... It's ok. Not Great.

So for next year when my upgrade comes back around (gold member) I'm considering the EVO 3d or whatever comes out at CES that fits my needs.

Android is the real upgrade from WM, not WP7. Android is customizable and flexible just like WM, with real multitasking just like WM.

Re: After TP2 whats next?

I also went the Android way with upgrading to the Epic. The phone runs great stock but its rooted running custom rom to take full advantages of it. Like how you can customize the phone without having to unlock/root anything

One of the reason i loved winmo was because i could easily create, or edit any office type of document which made it really easy for me with work when i was away from the office on android i have think free office full edition but its not the same thing

so +1 for android for me

Android all the way. My Epic runs great stock, and rooted only makes it better.

so many things wrong with this post I don't even know where to begin. I upgraded to wp7 and haven't looked back.

Got an Epic last week. It suits me more than the Arrive. But it all depends on what you want to do with the phone.

let's be fair...android isn't the better choice for most people right now...IT'S THE ONLY CHOICE.

I'm on my second attempt at an Epic and I'm still wishing for an HTC HD2-type device on the CDMA side of things. The TP2 is still good, but it would be better with a 1ghz processor and capacitive screen.

They did whore themselves extremely well...
If iOS would do the same... They would easily take the throne back.

Exclusivie contracts work for a while but not when trying to compete with an OS like Android.

I've got to say that EVERY day... My decision to come to Android is justified even further and it seems it will be difficult for me to go back to my roots (MS).

I am hopeful that they get on the ball and give users what they want and need. Not there yet and that's why I'm not either.

Re: After TP2 whats next?

i was thinking about that the other day, and to be honest with you, i'm rather pleased with wp7. i had a treo 700wx...winmo 5.0...you couldn't stream sprint tv or radio with it, then ms slowly added stuff...it will be the same with this. it's just a shame that most people here are cdma users and the cdma carriers are riding the android train. at&t opened up to wp7 once they knew verizon was getting the iphone...and we all know verizon could care less about ms.

Yeah... If Sprint had the HD7 I would hot have gotten the EVO.
But they went ahead and offered up the Arrive... HD7's dumpy lumpy short little sister.
lol.

I can think of several more reasons.

lets see them. keep in mind that the general public may not even be aware of all they can do with Android as to why they are getting it.

Re: After TP2 whats next?

I like WM and my TP2, but it has some miles on it and wonder when it will quit. I am not all that impressed with Android yet. I boot into Android with my TP2 and there are a lot of apps, but mostly play stuff. I can do all the Google Maps, voice commands, TellMe, Bing, etc. on WM. I have office apps like excel( even third party ones that will do macros & programming),word, powerpoint and outlook on WM. In short it is a good business phone. There are several good Navigation programs on WM that do not require online internet access.

If WM7 were backwards compatible and would run all the apps I have acquired and tweaked over the years then I would go with it. But, with it being Silverlight based and having to get a new development system and not being able to run WCE/Pocket PC apps, etc. then it is a real downer.

Typical of MS abandoning the masses and requiring developers to buy and learn a new OS and developer tools.

I know Android can open and edit some office files, but not sure it run some of the excel files and controls I now use on WM. It would be great if Android could boot back to WM or even better yet run a VM to allow running some WM apps. Oh well for now, even though I qualify for an upgrade, I am not inclined to do so.

Ugh, on my way to the Sprint store right now to get a new phone. My TP2 has lasted me two years, got it a week after they came out. It still works, but the "phone up" button is missing (the LEDs are blinding bright, should've been on the back of the phone), the speaker is blown (completely my fault) and now the screen autorotates on it's own/doesn't change when I open the keyboard. (probably from when I dropped it the 3rd time)

After I finally got a good custom rom and overclocked it and got running great.

I don't know what I'm gonna do, I really want another TP2, but I want 4G. I also would LOVE to stream fucking Netflix, not a big deal I guess as I normally watch it at the house anyways, but damn that would be killer.

Supposedly there's all these badass new phone coming out in the next two months, I just don't know anymore...

Get what "works" for you.

Brand loyalty is for those who seek acceptance. Believe me you won't get a check from Google if you choose Andorid... etc...

Be who YOU are and get what YOU need. Who cares what anyone says. If iOS did everything I want my phone to do... I would consider a switch. Just try things out and you'll be just fine.

Not real keen on people tracking my phone....

Re: After TP2 whats next?

That's why I said "IF"... But just cuz you don't have an iOS device it doesn't mean you're save from tracking...

Besides it's no big deal... EVERYONE around you knows you're there...

the HTC Arrive is currently the only sprint phone that could stream Netflix. the Netflix for Android app is in the making but hasn't been released yet AFAIK. and as for 4G its basically just a marketing gimmick and battery sucker. 3G is enough to satisfy most if not all computing needs (when it works but I won't go there in this thread).

Re: After TP2 whats next?

I was in Vegas last weekend and 4G did nothing noticeable for me on my EVO. Streaming Youtube still had to buffer and what else do you need that speed for? Unless you are tethering and using the laptop... I can't think of anything I'm going to do on my phone that requires super fast speed.
Not till they get things right and standardise 4G and give us batteries that last longer than a fart lingers.
But I'm not holding my breath... So to speak.

What do you need opened? most of the office apps are free to view, payed to Edit...so you can test out the apps for free to see if they open and then see about committing to buying..

4G has its uses...like downloading huge files...I also notice tethering is smoother on 4G...(probably due to being able to handle more active connections)

I have been in a few places including vegas, vegas I had not bad 4g coverage maybe even the best..but the speed was the slowest out of all the markets I tried so far while traveling.

FREEBIE!

Ugh...brand new TP2 in my hands, it feels sooooo good.

I'll never let you slide open fast again!

Vegas is overloaded for 4g and 3g, you can't barely tether with either there, just so many people there.

4G in AZ on the other hand.....

I would have got the EVO 4g by now. But I am going to wait for the 3D.

Right now WP7 cant do thether, not much warez, no non-data GPS.

So going for my first phone outside of WM. Sorry Microsoft.

there's a couple of non data GPS programs on wp7,just no big name ones. shouldn't be downloading warez anyway and as for tethering it will come before the EVO 3D comes out or a little bit after whether officially or unofficially. HTC might release an app for it like they did for the hidden WiFi.

yes but you can test them with view functionality and if you see one that opens all your spreadsheets get that software so you can edit.
