Can I make my HTC TP2 a Tmobile phone with no issues?
I stopped at the cell phone store and possibly might switch to a different carrier. Right now I pay total with tax $123/month for Simply everything plan by sprint which is rediculous. This guy is offering unlimited talk/text/internet for $60/month including tax. He said I need to switch to a Tmobile phone though. I don't want a Tmobile phone though especially after all the work it took to get the new ROM on my phone and now I like it again. The guy said he can do something to unlock the SIM and make it work with TMobile but there will be an 80% chance the internet will not work if I use my phone.
What do you guys think? Can this be done so the internet works? Anything I can do at home first or what? If yes to questions 1,2,3, will my phone function the way it does now? |

I wouldn't do it with the Sprint Model because you can get it working but you won't get 3g data just edge. My advice is try to buy a SERO plan from someone and do a Transfer Of Liability which will save you a lot or activate your phone on Boost Mobile which will allow you to use Sprint's Towers but pay Boost for your service which will be less. ;) |

Doesn't T-Mobile get 3g and 4g? The guy says I'll get 3g with the TP2, how will I know? |
The tp2 will get 3g in certain countries, but not in north America....and it absolutely will not get 4g, period.

I have the $99 simply everything plan. But about $23 taxes and fees. Why can't the TP2 get 3g in north america? |
Got it. Thats why. What plan can you get for $60 that offers the same thing? Thats crazy.
The reason the sprint tp2 can't do 3g on tmobile is because they are 2 different technologies. Gsm and cdma. You are able to flash the tp2 to work on tmo though since it is sim unlocked but like someone said already it will only use edge which is slow because the gsm frequency on the tp2 won't work on the 3g frequency of tmo. I think thats why. I'm sure someone else here can explain it better. Sent from my Evo using Tapatalk |

I'm really not sure what it's all about. $60 unlimited talk/text/web. It's some new store around the corner. $60 flat fee prepaid no contract. He said I'll be able to use 3g. He said they use verizons towers or something like that. But he said I'll be using tmobile/att&t network. Idk it's weird. Now i'm not sure if it makes difference whether i install a ROM before or after this guy unlocks the SIM. Oh and this guy swears that I'll be getting 3g because tmobile/att&t gets 3g and 4g. He seems like an hones guy. IDK what to think though. Oh and maybe you can help: what's up with this SD formatting program. I dowloaded it to my pc but it doesn't seem to do anything when I click setup.....do I download it to my phone? |

I know the numbers are wrong, but I'll give you an example...let's say ATT uses band 1900mhz for 3g, tmobile uses 1700mhz for 3g...the tp2 uses 2100mhz for 3g, you would only get 3g in a country using that frequency. I can't see your info in mobile mode...the only way to SIM unlock for free is if it's a Verizon tp2...otherwise you have to buy the SIM unlocker. |
That sounds about right. Except that the tp2 from sprint is already sim unlocked for international use. I was able to use it in dominican republic on orange without unlocking it. I use that phone as my backup still. I think all tp2 phones are sim unlocked except maybe the att version since att is such a crappy company and they lock all their phones.

Dr. 8820 is generally correct. The Sprint TP2 GSM hardware only supports Edge data on GSM. It is considered a Worldphone but normally operating in the US on the CDMA network so the CDMA hardware is capable of the 3g/EVDO data speed. If you had a TMobile or AT&T branded TP2 then yes it is 3g capable. Again OP I suggest you try and get a SERO plan or go with Boost Mobile to get a cheaper plan. |

Read through all the post on this and I know what that guy at the phone store is selling to the op. (Correct me if I'm wrong) He selling the op Simple Mobile service which has the $60 every thing unlimited plan. Simple mobile works on the Tmobile net. That's y that guy said he needs a tmobile phone since all the tmobile phones get support for them on simple mobile. Also the sprint tp2 won't have 3g speeds on US gsm net If u don't want pay that much anymore to sprint and still want 3g speeds just put it on boost mobile which is very easy to do it just follow the guide on how to do it (Guide for tp2 on boost) then you will only pay $50 which is still $10 less than the $60.... Sorry for the long post just thought I explain it If I helped you just hit the thanks button all I ask for |
Re: Can I make my HTC TP2 a Tmobile phone with no issues?
Ur better off staying with sprint and jus downgrading to the %69 everything data 450 plan the $99 plan is pointless I don't kno y they have it.

True. Many are finding that they don't use as many minutes as they used to. Thumbs have replaced the voice...

Oh yeah so did i get it right? (in re: to my 1st post on this) |
Re: Can I make my HTC TP2 a Tmobile phone with no issues?
That plan includes unlimited any mobile anytime minutes so the 450 minutes only apply when/if he's calling landlines.

Re: Can I make my HTC TP2 a Tmobile phone with no issues?
well that's the thing with the boost...otherwise I would go to boost. You know what, I'm not too concerned with the 3g being that i barely get it where I'm at now anyway. Someone here is right, it is Simple Mobile.
Let me ask you guys a question. The store offered to put android 2.2 on this phone. Would that solve these issues with not getting 3g? Will I have to go through the same bullshit to get all the things unlocked? |

Android 2.2 will not solve the 3G problem. Android is still a work in progress and may be too buggy to use fulltime everyday. |

What's the thing with boost? I didn't get what he mean by that. I was the one who said Simple Mobile. Alright I got right 10points for me or shoot atleast a hit on my thanks button... lol Installing android is not going to make any difference in regards to the network connection |

There is a big difference between an Evo and a Touch Pro2 my friend. |
Re: Can I make my HTC TP2 a Tmobile phone with no issues?

Re: Can I make my HTC TP2 a Tmobile phone with no issues?
like mentioned above you dont wanna do this, youll get EDGE data, not even 3G..
grab this 27% discount for sprint and your bill will go way down for you.. now you can keep sprint and the better network of the 2.. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/carrier-di...rint-bill.html |
Re: Can I make my HTC TP2 a Tmobile phone with no issues?
even if he got the full 27% discount thats still not a better price than what he would pay on boost
