My TP2 suddenly stays Muted. Can't UnMute. Help!!

My microphone suddenly stopped working. It's like my phone is on Mute. I can hear everyone but cannot talk to anyone. Could there be something I need to look at that might have gotten switched on by accident? I've tried hard Resetting the unit with no luck.

Has this been an issue with these phones in the past? It's been well cared for since new. Never dropped, wet, or any other mistreatment.

Need Help badly. I rely heavily on this phone. Luckily, I am on vacation this coming week so I won't be tied to it like I am when working.

Try using a wired or BT headset to see if the microphone is busted. I've seen speakers go bad on TP/TP2 devices, though I suppose that microphone failure isn't anything out of the ordinary.

I have a TP2 in front me right now that sits in pieces. I can tell you that getting to the mic isn't nearly as easy as getting to the speaker :(

That;s what I was afraid of. It works fine in my truck with the UConnect. So it sounds like it's time to buy another phone. $%&#@!*$@&*$!!!!!!. It's only a year old and, me being me, didn't get the insurance on it. If this is the quality of HTC phones nowadays, I don't now that I'll be getting another one. That was the whole reason I got it in the first place. I've had my HTC built Axim x51v's for years with not so much as a hiccup.

If anyone else has any insight I would greatly appreciate it. I want to make sure I've looked over everything. Is there possibly a setting I may have overlooked? I've done a hard Reset and it didn't help or change anything.

Thanks for the help. It's greatly appreciated.

If the problem occurs after you flash the sprint shipped ROM before you install/change anything, then it's a hardware problem. If your water damage stickers are fine (ie not bright red), you can probably just pay a Sprint store $35 to fix it (ie give you a refurb TP2). If you have TEP insurance, you won't have to pay the $35.

I'm running a stock sprint ROM. It's the updated 6.5 ROM that came out last year. It ran fine up until late yesterday. I took a call yesterday and the wife couldn't hear me. I thought it was just the area I was in but come to find out, no one could hear me on any of the other calls. I've been doing some searching and it looks as if there is a problem with the microphone going out with these phones. It's not an often problem but often enough, there's quite a few posts here and other places about this. Usually, it seems to be after a hacked ROM is installed but occasionally you find a post from people like me who just happen to try and use it only to find out no one can hear them.

I'm going to take it to my local store on Thursday and if they can switch it out or do that $35 repair, I'm probably going to be switching over to a Samsung Epic. I'd prefer to keep my phone but since I didn't take out the insurance and if I have to basically buy another phone outright, I'll just do the switch.

If anyone has any other info on this problem, please direct me to it. I'd like to lean as much as I could before I loose this phone.

Thanks

JohnMcD348-
I wanted to apologize to you and to everyone else reading this thread...some comments were posted through my account the other day that were inappropriate. I'm not sure what was even posted, but it was serious enough to get a reprimand.
I had party the other night and some friends of friends came over as well----I should have loged out of all account. My fault.

Again, John, I apologize

while the Epic is a great phone...you could pay for the mic fix (or if it is an ongoing problem, your carrier will usually fix it for free) then flash android. I'm using it daily with virtually zero problems.

If you need a hand with anything concerning the TP2, please let me know...I'd be happy to help

Thanks. I appreciate that. My problem will be whether or not I can get it fixed and back to me this week or not. If it's a quick fix that doesn't cost $100 or more since I didn't opt for the insurance, I'll get it fixed. If not, I'll be switching over to one of the Droid phones and may look at the Samsung versus the HTC phone. The mic problem couldn't have been better planned than if I'd actually done it on purpose. I rely on my phone when I'm at work. This week I happen to be on Vacation so I could care less if someone tries to call me or not. Next Monday will be a different story.

I looked at the Samsung----felt too "plastic" so I bought my wife an EVO and it is simply amazing. rooted it and flashed "Sprint lovers" and it is awsome!!!

Cool good to know. I'll keep that in mind. I just got back from the Sprint store and they said for $37 they would just change out myTP2 for another one so I decided after all this to go ahead with that option. I'll hold out for another year(if this one lasts that long) and switch up to something next year. By then the market and phones will have changed yet again. I've heard some things about dual chip phones coming out soon so who knows whats going to happen.

Also, it will give Win7 time to get moving along better and I may not be so dead set against it as I was becoming.

THanks again for the input. I appreciate it.
