Keeping the backlight off in a poor coverage area.
 

I've tried everything and read lots of posts. I've installed proximity sensor and kept my phone in a case. That didn't work and assumed it was the magnet on my case, so I changed the registry to not turn on the phone screen when the keyboard was slid open. That hasn't worked, so I installed an app called screen off that keeps the screen off while running an app like a GPS app, but that doesn't work either. My GF lives on the water, and my phone goes in and out of 1X and EVDO and my screen is constantly turning on by itself. It's annoying, and her Evo screen stays off while my TP2 turns on every few minutes. I have a hi-capacity battery that doesn't even last a day because of this. Anyone have any creative ideas, besides getting her to move or break-up? :P

BTW I have Sprint Lovers Rom 6.5.3, over-clocked at 729.6 and the regular lock screen not S2U2.

Maybe you could make a script to force 1x on command. Then toggle it on and leave it on until you leave the area with spotty coverage.

yea there's that and 2 other options:

1) force roam which can be done by bringing up dialer then menu>options>CDMA services>roaming then set to roaming only or

2) use the good ol airplane mode which is probly the best option if ur gonna be with the girl and don't want anyone bothering i know if i was still with my ex I'd enable that whenever we are together whether or not in good coverage.

Even in airplane mode, it still turns on, just not as often. Maybe it's the weather app or Windows Live trying to access the internet. I removed my SIM so Android could work better, so I don't have an option to force roam. I haven't tried the force 1X yet. I'll try it and report back.

ive never EVER had that happen in airplane mode. in that case u can

-increase the weather and windows live update intervals
-disable them
-lower the auto shutoff to 30 seconds of non use.
