Does Your TP2 Corrupts Itself and Loses Registry Settings?

This is about the 5th time this year that my phone corrupted itself, lost a lot of the registry settings, my Gmail account setup, background, ringers, alarms, Manila (SenseUI) settings, background, and generally a lot of stuff. This time it kept my ActiveSync and my contacts, but last time it didn't even do that. My Wife's phone also does the same thing every 2-3 months just like mine. My friend at work who also has a TP2 reports similar issues every few months where the phones resets or just gets so slow it becomes unusable.
:cussing:

I've ran the latest official Sprint ROM 2.04.651.4 2010-03-19 (WM 6.5 21889) and then switched to MightyROM 4.01.605.15 2010-06-20 (WM 6.5 21889) but same thing happens. I've tried the other MightyROM releases with WM 6.5.5 but they are so unstable that the phones corrupt themselves within days, so the 21889 build seems most stable.

Phone: T7380 (CDMA on Sprint in USA)
Radio: 2.32.00 WU (World Unlocked)
HardSPL: V1_10R3

I just reflashed the phone again today and am going back to the Sprint ROM. Any suggestions?

Otherwise I'm just going to wait a few months to get rid of this HTC TP2 and get a new phone with those dual-core processors that are supposed to be coming out "any day now".

theres the problem. u just named the buggiest builds of wm. the 21889 and the 235xx and above builds (2900x might have the bugs worked out) try a 21916 and u won't look back.

+1

Or if you want to run a shipped rom use the 6.1 version.

With any rom though make sure you try to keep it clean like delete useless texts and emails and clear temp files like cache, history, and cookies every week.
You will be much happier. :)

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm grabbing NRGZ28's Energy ROMs and I'll try the 29007 one, and if that one fails I'll go to the 21916.

Good Luck!

if it has CHT you may still have problems with RAM and such

Re: Does Your TP2 Corrupts Itself and Loses Registry Settings?

I checked out the Energy Cookie 2.0 (CHT) 29007 ROM and I shows I only have 32MB of memory available out of 187MB. The SenseUI is not entirely stable and it freezes or crashes if I try to interact with it for e-mail or finish a phone call. Also, the phone enables the security lock due to timeout even if I am using Google Maps while it is running with a route to a destination, super annoying.

I guess it's time to redo my phone for the 3rd time and this time avoid any distros with eye-candy like Cookie (CHT).

Frak! Why can't there be one good, stable, usable distro ROM that is recommended above all others so I don't feel like I'm alpha testing a 3-year old phone at this point!

hmmm. Could actually be a problem with your micro SD storage card. Either try another (preferably class 4 or better) storage card or save the stuff you need most on yours, format it and copy what you want back to it.

IMHO, my TP2 is one of the best I've owned.

BTW, I'm running NRG 29007 CHT 2.0 and its running great. No SOD's and battery life is exceptional. I'm also overclocked to 748.

Give the SD card suggestion a try and see if it helps.

Also try not to keep every single text or email. I had 50 MB of attachments a few months ago that caused the phone to get slow and buggy.

Agreed. :headbang:

It seems like whenever I get over 100 texts, Sense seems to slow down quite a bit. Not only do I delete any unnecessary texts but I empty the deleted texts as well just a s a good measure. Seems like things run quite nicely whenever I do that.

OP, are you flashing back to a shipped ROM or using Task29 between flashes? Data is somehow left over when flashing multiple custom ROMs and can cause your phone to reset itself.

Yes, always do that. Otherwise everything you delete is still in the phone.

Give LEAD ROM a try. Looks like stock Sprint, but runs much better. No eye candy or fluff. Overclocked it's real snappy. Get SKTools to recover RAM and cleanup temp files and such.

Re: Does Your TP2 Corrupts Itself and Loses Registry Settings?

I've recently upgraded my SanDisk MicroSD Ultra 2GB Class 6 card to a more spacious SanDisk MicroSDHC Ultra 8GB Class 4 that is a little slower for my wife and I. These are premium cards and I've always found SanDisk to be reliable, unlike other SD cards that I've seen actually corrupt themselves when my friends complain about their cameras and phones. The same corruption happens to both our phones when we were running MightyROM and it has happened a few times each for us, that is why I am dumping that ROM and went looking elsewhere. So 2-phones and 4-SD cards and still same corruption, I chock it up to the ROM.

I'll run the Energy 29007 ROM for now since I don't have the time today to reflash it and reconfigure everything, if it screws up majorly or I find some show stopper bugs I'll go to something else, Vin's or Lead ROM.

I never ran Task29.exe "format binfs" since none of the instructions for any of the previous ROM's needed to do that. I used to cook my ROMs with PPC Kitchen until their packages got long in the tooth and I don't quite remember if there was a Task28 or Task29 included in their flasher. Why is Task29 even necessary when a regular ROM flash does the same thing as a quick format on a hard drive? The left over data is still there in the unwritten sectors but because it is not referenced in the file table those blocks never get read or written since they are listed as unallocated. Unless there is a serious bug in the file system driver in WinMO that mistakenly reads or writes to the wrong unallocated blocks then there should be no need for explicit binfs format on the entire FlashROM.

Re: Does Your TP2 Corrupts Itself and Loses Registry Settings?

i have an A-Data 16gb card in my TP2 and it runs just fine. sandisk is overpriced IMO. and i have about 6000 texts here in Vin's ROM (forgot to clear them at new years)and everything is still running stable. and yea CHT usually does gobble up the RAM, but to the point where theres 32MB at boot i dont know, when i had it i booted with 64MB and this was with the stock rom plus the tweaks. switch to Vins ROM ASAP, u wont regret it. i would recommend lead rom but it has problems with text entry, the opera browser and mms.
