Got a refurb TP2 replacement, what should I send back?

This is the update for my case a week ago when I found out that the famous rainbow-banding showing up on my original Tp2 and also a loosen end button. After asking around and realizing how flaky my local stores are, I finally got the Advanced tech support to send me a replacement hoping it's new (someone said advance tech still send NIB replacement).

Got the package today with a refurbed phone. Built in Aug 09, but refurbed Dec 10. They send Rfed accessories as well (battery, charger and usb cable). I checked the phone throughout, seems the only physical/appearance problem is that there is a small pattern of light leaking on the "windows/back" button. It was only used for 12s before being sent back for refurb, LOL.

Question is:

1. Is it possible to get NIB warranty replacement Tp2 anyway? There are so many different stories, some said non-corp store is the way, others said corp stores. Also people were talking about how advanced tech support send new replacement.

2. I don't have TEP, so I guess I can live with the refurb if chance of getting new device is slim and the refurb has no other problem. What should I send back in that USPS envelope? All my original accessories are working well (battery, charger, and cable), but now they are shipping me everything refurbed. Do I need to return the accessories as well?

Thanks a lot.

Re: Got a refurb TP2 replacement, what should I send back?

yes, it is possible to get a brand new one.

the first 2 on my account, i had to go through multiple bad refurbish phones before it was finally approved to give me a new one.

the last refurbish phone i received, i took down to a corporate store and spoke to the manager. i guess it helped the store was extremely busy, and i was waiting for an hour...the manager just swapped it out with a new one for me.

fwiw, when you have to send in your damaged phone... they say you need to return the battery, back cover, etc... but you really don't need to. they are ok, and won't deduct anything from your account as long as they get the phone back. they really don't care about the battery or the back covers.

No, just the phone nothing else not even the battery or the battery cover.

Again, want to clarify, I don't have TEP. So would it be multiple charges of $35 fee if I want to swap this refurb unit in store?

This is the first replacement for my Tp2. The advanced tech support gal told me I only have one year warranty from my original device purchase date, no matter how many replacement I've gone through, which would be April this year.

And are you guys certain about no need of sending other stuff even the back cover?

+1 about sending in just the phone. no need to send accessories to sprint, jus send them to me ;) like the guy above said, they usually only give you aanew phone after youve had multiple refurb replacements. also, id get tep if possible

I have TEP and went thru the mail, but you are not supposed to send batteries in the mail. So I don't think that would incur a charge. IN the past you could keep the back cover also, but not sure about now.

yes, if you look for my previous threads... i have a lot of extra batteries and back covers i sold cheap.

and i didn't have tep either, but that was before the warranty rules changed. the last phone i told you about getting exchanged for a new one was the day before that new warranty policy went into affect.

guys, are those experiences (only send phone, not even backcover) after the warranty policy change ($35 fee for replacement for no TEP)? I still remember they used to send UPS bags and ask you to send everything in original box and threaten to charge if anything's missing.

You would be awfully lucky to get a NIB replacement for your first replacement with no TEP. Basically no chance. I say keep the battery and stylus from your old device. Send back your old device and the older AC Adapter and cable.

how were you able to get advanced tech to send you a new device? they told me I had to go into a store. I really don't want to waste my time with that, the backlight on my TP2 often times doesn't come back on after the power button is pressed and it goes to powersave. I have TEP & SERO and I was told there was a policy change in Oct.

No one here has claimed that they got NIB advance exchange so far, especially after policy change. I searched the forum and only saw one thread a year ago, talking about geting NEW replacement from eticket/advanced tech support. I followed that lead instead of drive around to different stores like crazy, but I guess it's really a hit or miss in both ways and to some extend, you might have better chance in stores. With Sprint, it's always a YMMV situation which I hate.

BTW, updates on my situation: the refurb they sent was still activated on some dealer account as a demo phone. Nobody could even activate it for me so they are sending another one. 2 replacement phones in 2 days for nothing, let alone the UPS overnight fees and stuff. How can sprint not lose customers and profit?

Sorry if I was unclear. I meant new to me. Refurb would be acceptable (at least as a first attempt), but the issue I had was advanced tech wants to force me to go into a store, instead of trying to troubleshoot (then send me a replacement) over the phone. Apparently I need an address listed at least 30 miles away from the nearest store for them to mail it now. How were you guys able to get around this new policy?

your problem is just the SOD issue discussed many times on this site. flash a custom rom that uses builds in either the 2105x,219xx,28xxx and above branches and problem solved..

Should the 29007 branch fix that problem? I just loaded the latest EnergyRom 29007 Jan06 yesterday, and I experienced the screen not turning back on after I clicked the power button this evening, so problem still exists.

And I've only tried calling once so far, I got to employee accounts tech support and they quoted policy that they couldn't change forcing me to go into a store because they couldn't just mail out a new one.... do you have a better group to try to talk to, or a good direct phone number?

Just to clarify, for the refurb unit return, I also only need to put the phone itself right? I got to keep the refurbed battery and accessories too.

No wonder you guys have so many refurb batteries even for sale. LOL

yes, just send the phone back without the back cover, battery, stylus and if you were using the stock screen protector, remove that as well since the refurbs don't come with a new one for you.

you also do not need to send your phone charger.

Loaded up Energy.RHODCDMA.21916.Sense2.5.Cookie.2.0.Jan.06 and after the initial boot I clicked the power button, screen went off per normal, but a second click didn't turn it back on. Sometimes plugging in the usb brings it back and sometimes if I'm lucking click the power a lot will do it, but still most of the time I've got to soft reset/pull the battery.

To the guys who have had advanced tech send out replacement devices, got any tricks to get past the policy change?

Update: I was able to get Sprint Tech to mail me out a replacement device without having to go into a store. Hopefully it won't have the same backlight issue as my current device.
