Flashing without network (Sprint) coverage
We are currently vacationing where there is absolutely no cell service (no Sprint, no roaming, no nothing). Before we left home, I was working on learning how to develop my own ROMs. So my question is, what is the implication of flashing a new ROM when there is no coverage. It will be a couple of weeks before we get back into a Sprint area again, but possibly sooner for a non-Sprint signal. Will I be able to use the phone when roaming after a flash? Not sure what provisioning is done by Sprint when the phone boots the first time. Anybody have any experience with this?

Re: Flashing without network (Sprint) coverage
registered for 2 years and still a lurker? interesting. anyway there shouldnt be any side effects when flashing a ROM outside of coverage as long as its either already provisioned to sprint or if you provision it yourself with a cab (some roms have an auto provisioning app cooked in) you should be fine once you return to coverage.
where are you going that has absolutely no coverage? montana? |
Re: Flashing without network (Sprint) coverage
I have unactivated devices that I flash.. hell, i just flashed NRG DEC 6 Dinik and XDAndroid yesterday on an unactivated TP1...
Service doesnt matter, the ROM will still flash.......... Is it just sprint service you dont get? do other carriers have a signal?? you could SIM unlock, buy a prepaid GSM SIM card, and get service for your trip.. |
Re: Flashing without network (Sprint) coverage
Thanks for the help. We are heading to Big Bend National Park. Nothing down there for miles. And yes, I know, two years is a long time to still be a lurker. I wish I had more time to contribute to the site, but with work and family, there just never seems to be enough hours in the day. I have a couple of provisioning cabs for Sprint, so it sounds like all should be good. Thanks again.
