Happening to me. Boss has iPhone and every "NEW" txt he sends me comes through as a MMS but if he sends me a txt in his threaded convos with me it sends me a regular SMS. Our Secratery's iPhone does exactly the same thing. My wife's TreoPro will not do it???

that makes sense. apple figures everybody wants to send multi-media messages, or at least the exact same way they do txt.

yeah been happening to me on and off ever since beginning of summer. when i was using the tp2, every now and then, my sister's texts would come as an mms. that it's just to ask if i was coming home for the weekend. when i started using bb, it happens once in a while still.

Wonder if this is a way for ATT to increase the individual usage towards their data cap.
Not familiar with MMS data usage math.

I get plenty of texts from my brother who is using an iphone 3gs and this has never happened to me.

don't know if this helps but this started happening to me from only one friend with iphone, and i think it started happening after i sent him a pic (mms), so i always thought it was because he was replying through that mms when he sends me a text and that's why i receive it as mms (which happens even if you are not on iphone). Some of his texts are sms still though so i thought it was how he is sending text, whether he choses to reply from mms or sms.

Yep that's exactly the pattern i've noticed. When I send a picture to my dad on his BlackBerry if he replies to it, it's an MMS. Also, when my friend with an iPhone sends me a group text or replies to a group text, it's an MMS.

This happened recently to me and my friend said it was because she sent out a mass txt.
