Odd Screen Rotation Problems with Keyboard
Hi everyone,
My screen has stopped rotating properly when I open the keyboard. When I first open the keyboard, the screen rotates to landscape mode then quickly rotates back to portrait mode. This only appears to happen in certain apps such as, Sense 2.5, file explorer. The screen rotates and stays rotated fine in landscape mode when I am in Opera Mini 5.1 and if I exit Opera Mini Sense works fine in landscape mode. Has anyone ever experienced this before? I am pretty sure this isn't my ROM (MightyROM RhodiumW 06-20-10) as I have flashed multiple ROMs trying to fix this issue. Thanks for the help, Will |

Re: Odd Screen Rotation Problems with Keyboard
Right now I am using the latest Mighty ROM (6.20.10) but I also started experiencing the issue with Mighty's older ROM WAR from 2.3.10. I tried flashing the Sprint's Lovers ROM yesterday and had the same problem.
I used the WAR ROM for months with no issues and all of a sudden this started to happen regardless of programs installed. Could this be caused by a hardware defect? |
Re: Odd Screen Rotation Problems with Keyboard
never had this issue... if its happening on every ROM you use, are you entirely sure its not something Your installing??

I was thinking the g-sensor was failing because when I am writing a txt the screen will rotate fine with the keyboard open. However, if I move the phone a certain way it will go back to portrait mode and then I have to make sure to move back to a normal landscape orientation and the screen then returns to landscape mode. I tried disabling the g-sensor with a CAB I found (which worked) but that didn't fix the issue. |
Re: Odd Screen Rotation Problems with Keyboard
are you sure the g-sensor is actually disabled?? Opera doesnt auto rotate either right?? if it is then the g-sensor isnt fully disabled...
either way this shouldnt be happening to you... have your tried a ROM thats not Mighty? again, its not like you should have this issue anyways... doubt im gonna come up with anything better than the whole task29/flash dance routine... if g-sen is already disabled, then IDK... is your top screen lose maybe? |
Re: Odd Screen Rotation Problems with Keyboard
try recalibrating the gsensor

Re: Odd Screen Rotation Problems with Keyboard
it is possible that this is the beginning of a hardware problem.
my tp2 started doing almost the same thing, now, if i slide open the keyboard at all, my phone freezes up, sometimes requiring a soft reset to correct. if it does not freeze up, the screen will rotate, but not the windows taskbar and soft keys, they keyboard works, but i do not see any text entry until i slide the keyboard closed and the screen rotates back to portrait...but like i said, this is only if it doesnt freeze up, which it does 95% of the time. i am pretty sure that this is a hardware problem, probably in the ribbon cable as it does it regardless of ROM, even after a fresh hard reset. |

I would guess the ribbon cable is making an intermittent connection. |

i imagine it would not be a whole lot different. i might give it a shot eventually, i will probably move on to a new phone, just cuz i am a tech junky going thru withdrawals with all the new phones coming out, but no sense letting this one go to waste if that is the only thing wrong with it, i could always kick it down to the wifey and get her away from that horrible lg rumor she loves so much. |
Re: Odd Screen Rotation Problems with Keyboard
I just ordered a new touch pro2 from Sprint. In addition to the screen rotation issue, my sound has stopped working on phone calls with the headphone earpiece (I think a pin is messed up in the headphone jack) and the charging lights only work randomly. The phone is failing even though it is only 14 months old and has no damage what so ever. I am at the point where I can't answer the phone unless I am willing to use the speakerphone (which doesn't go over so well in the cubes).
I took advantage of this situation to extend my SERO 500 ($30/month) contract another 2 years. I got my first TP2 off eBay because it was cheaper than upgrading with Sprint. The TP2 now goes for around $200 on eBay so no difference in price than getting a guaranteed to work/new phone from Sprint. I will let everyone know if the new phone fixes the issues. |
Re: Odd Screen Rotation Problems with Keyboard
This may or may not help you in any way but you can disable the keyboard rotation sensor and it will ignore rotation when sliding the keyboard.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\Rotation] "CamAppActive"=dword:00000001 Default is "0" Then you can use keyboard config and set button of your choice on the keyboard to rotate. That is what I do because I don't like the auto rotation... |
