I was going to go with a Droid X, but an equivalent plan to what I have on AT$T (got to keep my $15 unlimited data) would have cost me $20 more a month on Verizon. |

I started to see charges on my account for things I did not purchase. After figuring out what was going on, it took me hours on top of hours to finally get a high level Sprint tech to actually see that the person who bought my phone was downloading items and it was being charged to my account. Guess they were using the phone before actually activating it and it was allowing them to download things on my account......... |

Did you really just suggest that someone leaving the TP2 go to the Optimus? lol. The Optimus is an underpowered doorstop. The TP2 has 4 times the rom and twice the RAM of the Optimus. He wants a new phone, not a worse one with a worse screen (TP2 800x400, Optimus 320x480). Hell my 3 year old Mogul had 320x480. OP, go with the Evo or Epic and you will not be sorry. I just left my TP2 last month and while I still love it, it can't compare. Having a huge capacitive screen is pure joy, not to mention the increase in horsepower. |

Never once considered grabbing the Optimus, describing it as a 'doorstop' is about as perfect as it gets. I am 100% going for the Epic on the 18th, and I'm going to be delighted. |

Yep, the MSL is tied to a SIM but since we CDMArs don't use SIMs(except on gsm side) the extra step is probably a good idea. :D |

So before sale the sim should be removed, how do you enter the msl code to wipe the phone number? |

I flashed back to 6.5 stock rom and removed sim. Now time to create the ebay sale page =) I love my EPIC wayyyy better than the TP2. Even from day one the TP2 was always a pita for me, sluggish pocket dialer..... I sometimes get frustrated with the Epic because sometimes I forget to hit the Send button the extra time when making a call b/c I am so use to the TP2 but it is so much better than accidentally calling someone on the TP2 when just trying to view contact info. BTW, flashing back to stock - will it reverse the fact that the phone is unlocked? |
Re: Good time to leave TP2?
I'm kind of in the same boat (I think most of us are :) ).
TP2 has been great. Once I settled on a ROM using Kitchen I have not touched it in 6 months !! All I need is GPS Nav (iGuidance or similar) Browsing And Exchange based Email/Contacts. Tether (Wifi hot spot is fine) I'm concerned about exchange. A coworker has a Droid and does have it working but it's not as good as Windows Mobile (he says). I think he is very knowledgable but it's fairly stock. Since EVO has been out for while. I thought why not wait until Sprint for next Gen EVO. But I'm on SERO 500. And I can supposedly upgrade to SERO 1250 (still a bargain). I'm worried that opportunity may change. But what would I really get over TP2. Not perfect but it works. I rarely use keyboard. With HTC's look and feel the EVO looked so much like a TP2. Most reviews give EVO the edge over the Epic. |

So $50/month to use any phone you want and 500 landline minutes, unlimited cell minutes. Quote:
The Epic beats the Evo in Specs alone (superior GPU/CPU/Screen), not to mention it now has 2.2(though not official,) with a flawless GPS. |

Looking at the phones from a pure hardware view, the Epic obviously wins with amoled, hummingbird cpu and hard keyboard (among higher storage capacity and gpu) vs. Evo with the snapdragon cpu, hdmi out and a huge 4.3" display, that certainly is a matter of choice. What the issue as stated in a post before yours is the issue with the operating systems. The Evo is coming out of the box with 2.2 built in now. Through my research, I have still yet to find someone running Froyo on the Epic4g with no complaints. Quote:
This is causing some headaches for me. I was expecting the epic to be THE next upgrade. Now with the Nexus s coming out, which is basically the Epic, with 2.3 support assured, the Epic is going to be 2 osupdates behind the Nexus S and 1 behind the Evo.. Grr.. And no it's not about who has the latest operating system. I believe this is a testament to the attention and detail Samsung will be putting into the future of this device. With that being said, I am fully aware that Froyo and even in the near future Gingerbread will be fully operational on the Epic, my question is just a matter of when. I have also been talking alot with Android devs the past few days and they are warning me about several new implications and indications that there will be issues with Google trying to nazi the freeware dev apps very soon. So, I might push back my upgrade for a small while, although no better sprint devices will be presenting themselves in 2011.... I find the htc 7 kind of a slap in the face, and I am not interested in the Knight. What I was thinking about doing was 'upgrading' to the dell inspiron 11z or maybe even the galaxy tablet. I will keep my TP2 for service and I can tether wherever I may roam. Not to mention, where ISNT there wifi anymore..? What do you guys think about using the upgrade to score a laptop/tablet? |

Can I upgrade my $30 sero to $40 for sero 500 premium? plus tax and insurance it will be around $50 (is that what you meant). The one review I read said epic screen in nice but sunshine completely wipes it out and does not on evo. And the larger size is nice. I use gps all the time and bigger bright light tolerable screen is important. I never use keyboard. And processor is better on epic but my understanding is they are close. So it's pretty even. |

Any suggestions on whom to call for this plan upgrade and reasonable price on the EVO or Epic phone. I'm 1 year in on TP2. Thanks again for the info. I just played with Android 2.2 on my TP2, looking pretty good but not real usable but it certainly gives you a good flavor. |

Re: Good time to leave TP2?
We are also wondering which phone to go to ....
I think my decision will be made as to how the windows 7 phone is locked down and if I can use it the way I want to ... Otherwise we will be looking at either the Android or the New Iphone If we switch look for our contributions (below) to be either ported or discontinued |
Re: Good time to leave TP2?
I'm torn. On the TP2, I can do FTP and SSH (which I use for work). Can't do that on WP7 so far. Android can do both, I assume, but can't do sharepoint NTLM, which WP7 can do. I'm jealous of the speed, particularly with browsers, that I'm seeing on the newer smartphones but I think I have to wait it out for awhile.

Re: Good time to leave TP2?
If you highly depend on Voice Command on TP2 you can just forget about Android right now.
It don't work, as incredible as that may seem. If you copy all your exchange contacts to GMail and maintain duplicate lists I'm told it will work. But I have sensitive info in my contacts that I don't want on a google server. Totally unbelievable. |

this thread is unbelievable. nothing wrong with keeping the tp2 till the WP7 phones are out. buying a new phone every 6 mos in an attempt to have the latest greatest and top of the line is as commercial and bandwagon jumping as one can get
