Two huge nagging problems with the TP2 that may cause me to return or sell it...

Current rom is "MIGHTYROM" WM6.5

Problem 1:
MP3's skip in Windows Media Player while I press the off button and put the device in my pocket to use as a portable MP3 player.

Problem 2 (Huge!):
Sticky 'Fn' key problem that occurs only in PocketPuTTY. I press FN, enter a symbol as desired, and I have to press Fn three more times to turn off the Fn key light. This is very very irritating!!! How do I fix this? Do you recommend a better Pocket SSH client? I do UNIX/Linux for a living and need SSH on my phone. I will switch to an HTC Epic as soon as I can, but for now I have to make this work. When I'm not in PocketPuTTY the 'Fn' key behaves as desired - it lights up when pressed, I enter desired symbol, it lights off.

Other nags:
Lack of Ctrl Key (Fixed by mapping envelope/email key to right ctrl)
'-' key requires Fn to push (Linux uses the '-' a lot in the command line)

Other than that it has better battery life and a bigger screen than my original TP.

1) dont press the power off button, use PSSHUTXP to turn off your backlight while playing MP3s..ill attach it below

2) here a keyboard with FN, CNTRL, and F1-12 keys.. i use this keyboard when i boot WIN95 on my TP2...(its VGA so looks fine in portrait, landscape its a little small)) http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=132272

either of those are pretty insignificant reasons to get rid of the #2 winMO device IMO.. easily fixed solutions, so keep your device!

Soooo you're willing to return the DEVICE because of a few SOFTWARE errors? :angry7:

I don't use PocketPutty, so can't help you there...
There is a kb mod that will allow you to modify the Fn key to serve as a CTRL and other buttons (ALT ect)

The windows media issue can be correct as well... search around before you throw the baby out with the bath water... :(

The MP3 issue isnt that bad. But on my original TP I didn't have to run PSSHUTXP, turning off the unit kept the music playing as long as the headphone icon was on the top title bar. I think it has something to do with the zoom sensors, apparently your pocket touches or rubs against them and it skips or pauses or otherwise interrupts the track as it plays. The original TP had no problems.

The FN key issue is really severe. I am typing a linux command (eg "screen -r 12345") then I end up typing "screen -<greek letters start appearing because you forget to press Fn key 3 times to disable it>"

So far the original TP rocked for Linux and Pocket SSH connectivity. It had an onboard Ctrl and - key.

Ok, then I'd also recommend looking into a decent screen locking app as well...

Rhodium Keyboard Controller will:

-allow you to add a '-' key.. I recommend replacing the mail (envelope) or SMS key
-assign the power key to one-click suspend, two-click screen off, etc..
-maybe even help with your FN key issue in Putty, if you play around a little

Download it at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554240

And for the MP3 issue, have you tried another music player. Slide2Play, Coreplayer, TCPMP, etc etc Hell, even the built-in Sense player might be better than WMP

problem 1 can be solved by using .wma professional files instead of .mp3 files I maybe get 1 or 2 skips at the most per listening session.

Guys, I ended up exchanging the phone for the Epic 4G. It's about time for a change, I still find WM6.5 on TP/TP2 sluggish and choppy and lacking in quality apps. I took the plunge and for a $35 restock fee + $50 difference in phone cost I am getting the Epic 4G on monday! Another frustration was that Windows Mobile doesnt stream or play Shoutcast streams (EG http://www.etn.fm), it says they are invalid. I tried alternatives to stream - MortPlayer and GSPlayer and they drain the battery very quickly and make the phone very laggy.

Good luck with the epic. It's irrelevant now probably but if you run cookie home tab, there's a media player built into the home screen. I stopped using windows media player and started using this instead, and it doesn't skip. I guess it's less resource intensive since you're not running a separate app, it's just part of the home screen. It's not perfect, you have to keep reminding it to randomize the playlist. Otherwise it's very handy, you can just slide up to get to it.
