So displex made my scratches worse :/

had a bunch of mild scratches in one small area and one deeper one that caused the rainbow effect. spent twenty minutes with a soft cloth and the displex. when I turned the screen back on I had a ton of rainbows. maybe I did it wrong.

so what has someone used on scratches like this on a tp2? maybe the stuff that's supposed to fill the scratches in (rather than buff them out) will work better?

thank god for insurance.

Pulled from the displex product page:

Attention: use only on non-coated surfaces and plastics; when used on mobile phones, treat only the transparent portions of the display lens. Not for use with touch screen displays.
I have heard of people using an egg, or banana, or toothpaste, but never tried this myself.

serious? that must smell bad after some time. honestly, I got over the paranoia and insured my phones. Owned my TP2 for nearly a year, several dozen drops(dog likes to pull phone from the charger cable), paint chipping on the corners, a couple of decent slashes on the screen from the drops, and the thing still runs like a champ! All the cuts seem to dissapear when the screen lights up, so it doesnt bother me any. and if anything does go horribly wrong, Sprint will get me a new one :D

I've used 3M rubbing compound and a clean microfiber cloth to rub out light scratches on the touchscreen with good results. Use compound sparingly and lite even pressure during the process.

Can someone explain what displex is and how it differs from other screen protectors?

I saw the bit about displex not being for touch screens but based on this I decided to give it a whirl: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Does_displ...nes_if_not_why
that and the insurance :p

I also tried toothpaste, but no joy, and you gotta be careful not to leave any.

guess I'll get the protector. still curious if I can find something that fills the cracks. mostly it's just the rainbow effect that's distracting. maybe that goes away if it's filled in a bit. like he said, the smaller ones disappear once it's lit.

it's just the rainbow effect that's distracting.

so you read that it said Not For Touchscreen, yet tried it anyways..

relying on your $100 insurance deductible as backup..

your too funny man..

and Rainbow Branding/Effect occurs underneath the screen.. Im doubting anything you can do will fix it.. usually means the crack is pushing down against the actual display, I dont see how filling it could fix it

Oh damn...notwithstanding the disclaimers, I would've thought twice about using any type of buffing agent on a touch screen. :banghead:

I'm far from saying I suggest trying it, but I wonder if glass/windshield (windscreen) repair resin would fill in scratches.

well this made me curious, since i had some of the resin in my possession already, so i worked the google on the internet machine and searched for it, but couldnt find anything solid, so i tried it on an old alltel diamond i have here that has a bad digitizer anyway.

I took a key, put in some scratches light to heavy, and gave the resin a try.

RESULTS:
BAD F***ING IDEA lol,
i filled the scratches but has this glaze effect that makes it look like ron jeremy was lookin at porn on it :(
if i get my camera workin ill take pics to show you all.
worth a try, now i have an excuse to replace the lcd/digitizer i bought a couple months ago for it.

Glad I came back to this post. I was thinking of trying a resin but now I'll prolly pass.

Although, the way these things are meant to be done (if it's similar to the stuff turtlewax uses to fix clearcoat on cars)... you let it set for a good long time (like 24 hours) and then use ultra fine grit sandpaper or a cloth to wipe off the excess. It leaves a little bit in the scratches to keep 'em filled in but all the rest is meant to buffed off the surface of the screen.

I know what you're thinking... "sandpaper?! You serious? lol that'll make it worse" ...but I mean ULTRA fine grit. Like 4000 grit. It doesn't even feel like sandpaper anymore.

If you haven't traded it in yet, get the turtlewax scratch repair kit. You do some very light back and forth with soft teal #4 pads (4000 grit) and then a good polishing with the paint clarifying compound. Won't look like it's covered in jism anymore.

That's why after owning touch screen phones for 7+ years, I've learned to immediately put on a screen protector out of the box, even if it's temporary. Fortunately the one that came in the box was awesome, the one I ordered from sprint that I had to cut out was crappy, now I run ghost armor and it is REALLY awesome.

It hasn't deteriorated at all, I wipe it with my shirt and it looks brand new, except for the 3 spots where I touched it when I had super glue residue on my fingers, but even those I was able to "scrape" most of it off. As soon as I have time, I'll go down to the ghost armor stand in the mall and have them replace it for free under their "lifetime warranty".

Unfortunately the armor on the rest of the phone is peeling at the corners and I need to have that replaced, our phones are just to curvy for making a proper sticky protector for it, without going all crazy.
